Honda Ei2000

I did some reading a while back and determined that this would be a good match for my 1996 Excello....

Going to be pulling the trigger on this in the next couple weeks:
EU2000i1A3 Companion (50 State Certified)
(Has the 30A plug I need)

Open to any last minute +/- if anyone wants to speak up.

(Will be using this when Boondocking on my land, and boondocking elsewhere. I I have solar on the roof, but to top off the batteries, and run the AC when needed.)

Inorder to run your AC you will need an EU200i in addition to the EU200i Companion and the parallel cable set.

DOH!

I've lived in Hurricane country all my life and have used smaller to run window units for "Cold rooms" I just checked and you are absolutely right, it needs 3.5KW!

It's a tax write off for when I do Flood adjusting, so cost is not so much of a problem... but I'm glad you pointed it out now!
(I need to see what a more modern AC will pull... that's a CRAZY draw!)

Hondas

We have a 1989 Excella 29' and have both of the Honda generators mentioned. They are quiet and do a great job. We spent a couple of weeks "off the grid" in the SW states last winter, boondocking in the desert.

What do you do about the limited fuel capacity of these small units? Can you hook a boat take to them?

There is an adapter to a larger tank... but I don't plan on running it for more than a couple hours. If it's hotter than that I need to get in my TV with IT's AC and go somewhere nicer!

I looked into it because it's a 'smart geny' and has a chip that helps it regulate it's usage to your draw.

I expect that running the AC is going to have two of them running full blast.

Roughly 70% or so. When I run my a/c with mine, I start the a/c unit with the eco switches off, then turn the eco switches on after the compressor load stabilizes. Noise level and fuel consumption both drop slightly.

Or, just one EU 3000i (not the handi) ... it is heavier, but quieter ....

One little thing that irked me is that the 30 amp plug on the gen is not the same 30 amp plug on my AS elec cord. I had to buy an adapter, before it would work.

BTW, it's 25k, not 35. A 3000i will run the a/c, but with no real reserve. The 3000 and 2000 watts are maximum surge, sustained load is less on both generators.
With the two 2000s, you can safely run a small microwave or a coffee maker while running the air.

Do you have one or 2 AC units ?. If one what model? If only one you may want to verify the load requirements for the unit. I have 2 Honda EU2000 one is a Companion and a 3000 with remote start I use on my boat and it runs the Single RV type AC with out issue and even runs a electric hot water heater at the same time. 3.5K is seems like an awful lot for a single unit.

It is not 25K or 35K that would be 25000 watts or 35000 watts. Pesky decimal points. This is the link to the specs of the 3000.

honda eu3000is generator 3000 watt super quiet electric start inverter equipped Honda generators

This is the AC output of the 3000:
120V
3000W max.(25A)
2800W rated (23.3A)

2- 2000 units will give you more flexibility but the remote start on the 3000 sure is nice. Both models have a ton of accessories to make them easy to live with.

WE find the 3000 with electric start to be more convenient and an excellent choice; in fact, we traded in one of our Eu2000i on the 3000 and kept the EU2000 companion for emergencies ... YMMV

Add the remote start stop kit and you will really love it. You can do it yourself in a couple of hours. Couple different ones mine was $160.00 on ebay. The expensive one will let you select eco mode remotely and some other options. Mine starts, starts with choke, and shuts down.

You may want a solar system for the trailer/property. Check the airforum classsifeds.

Got one on the Airstream (Although I plan on upgrading it) and a buddy is checking with a friend of his who owns a solar company into me getting the panels at cost.

I'll take a look though.

All this advice is correct. I have the EU2000i but I don't use it with the AC. Actually, I've never needed the AC - We live in Oregon!

The EU2000i has enough power to run the AC on low. It's the startup that draws the biggest load. And if you don't supply the AC with enough juice on startup, you will toast your AC. That's what I hear anyway, and really I shouldn't even be talking because I'm sure plenty of people in the southern states have actual experience trying this.

We boondock a lot, and I have a 100' cord for the genny and we can't even hear it for movie night.
