Genset alternative

Yesterday I went to a Northern Tool store to look at Honda 2000 gensets. I found a great alternative. NH have been selling and servicing Honda for years. They sold a lot of 2000 so they decided to make their own. They took all the most frequent service items and changed them for better service. They are called Powerhorse. The unit has both a 20 A and 30A receptacle on the front but you only get 30A using two. The cable to connect two comes with each one. But you do get a full 30A rather than 26.5A on the Honda. It looks identical to the Honda and weighs the same. If you should have a problem with it, you just bring it to any NH store in the nation. The salesman said every thing was better about it. He did say that it was a hair louder but not noticably. The best thing is that it sells for $599 rather than $999 and on sale now for $569. I was really impressed so I thought I would pass it on.

I assume that is a typo and he means a Northern Tool Store.

Northern Tool Store used to be Northern Hydraulics, hence some of us still think NH.

A quick review of the specs shows Powerhorse to be slightly quieter than the Honda at idle and slightly louder at full load. Also appears to be several pounds heavier. Bargain price makes it an attractive option...

I lifted both in the store and there did not seem to be any difference. Maybe I am stronger than I think.

Both this generator and the Honda 2000 are rated at 1600 watts for long term use.

1600/120 volts = 13.3 amps for either one. Paralleling two would give the same 26. 5 amps on either set of generators. So, there is no difference in capacity.

Are two 2000w generators running in parallel noisier than one 3000w generator when powering the Airstream AC?

I think you are right. A closer reading shows the 55 lbs to be Shipping Weight. I think genset weight is 8-10 lbs less.

At least apples-to-apples, yes. e.g. my Yamaha 3k is quieter than a pair of Yamaha 2ks, the "big" Honda 3k (EU3000is, not the "Handi") is quieter than the Honda 2ks. However, they're big heavy suckers and may not fit under a tonneau in the back of the pickup.
