Lots of good fly fishing here in BC. There is a lot so close to me, here in Vancouver, that I don't even need to take the trailer out. Hopefully next fall I'll be able to take a trip with the trailer over to the Island for some salmon fishing on the fly. Right now, I hit the local beaches for cutthroat trout. With all the fry emerging from the streams and rivers, the fishing is pretty good right now.

More Montana River Boondocking

There is a nice campground below Lewis & Clark Caverns state park in southwest montana. This is along the Jefferson river near Three forks. If you're traveling east on I 90, exit at Cardwell, and get on the old 2 lane highway that parallels the Jefferson river. Campground is on the left. You can get back on I 90 at Three forks.

Looking for some in the "Yampa Valley" of Colorado - in the SteamBoat Springs area... Anyone got some good spots - if not I'll find a few in the next months...

Finally pulled the trigger on an AS

I have been participating in this forum to learn before buying an AS to support my fly fishing habit. We finally pulled the trigger yesterday on an 08 Safari SE 23FB. We are looking forward to taking it on its maiden voyage!

I already have trips lined up for the Taylor Fork and Gunnison, CO this spring and summer with some others lined up for MT.

So now that we have the trailer, what other critical essentials do we need to buy? I've already got my braker controller and Reese dual cam WD hitch. Thanks for the advice!

worms

OMG - worms? That was the best advice ever and made me laugh!

Seriously though - wheel chocks, lock for hitch, sewer wand?

So many options - just trying to figure out what is the bare minimum in addition to my flies

The Taylor Fork is outside of Gunnison, CO and has some beautiful campgrounds right on the river. We stayed there a year ago in the airstream - boon docking and had a wonderful time. It's a great location for fly fishing as you can fish from the campground or float the Gunny. Can't lose!

I think we stayed at a campground called Rose something if memory serves me well. Very pretty and quiet.

Pebble creek campground at yellowstone park is a wonderful base camp.you could spend a month there and not cover all the water. Yellowstone river in some sections has free launch and takeout sites 3/5 miles apart.NO amenities but the price is right. The reclamation project at Butte, mon.is paying dividends on the upper river. Generally,in Montana /Idaho there are blm campgrounds on most of the fishy streams.

Montana Rivers Book

I found a great book that maps all Montana rivers and their campgrounds. Its called "Montana River Maps & Fishing Guide." It is published by Frank Amato Publications. AmatoBooks.com

It shows the rivers, roads, and campgrounds of every river in Montana. This includes river acces sites and boat launch sites. The campgrounds are marked that allow RVs. It does not disclose other camping info such as hookups. Most campgrounds on this map are FWP or BLM campgrounds that have picnic table, campfire ring and common pit outhouse. I saw a few RV parks on the maps. If you want to boondock on the rivers of Montana, you may want to check this book out. Price is $25.

I'm a lifetime Montana resident and river rat, and I bought the book because I like exploring new areas of the state for my photography.

Just spent 6 day on Taylor River, stayed in Lottis Creek CG. Lottis just opened last week after a complete renovation and wonderful. Here is a photo on one of the fish I caught on the Taylor. And a shot of our campsite.

Tight lines,

I guess that I need to put fishing the Taylor on my bucket list, after I learn how to fly fish.

Beautiful photos on your website Wheeler. Bigcgar that is a nice fat bow. I am heading up to Steamboat in July to shoot a balloon festival after spending some time in Great Sands Nat. Park. I was just looking for a nice campsite close to Steamboat.

Do a search on Steamboat and campgrounds. I have a separate post on the topic. Abridged version is Stagecoach Lake, Pearl Lake, and Steamboat Lake. stagecoach is closest to trophy waters.
