I, too, fish with bambo fly rods. They are expensive and easily damaged, so I'm very careful with them. My rods came in brass and/or aluminum tubes with a cloth "holster" for each rod section.

If you don't have these, they can be had at almost any good fly shop.

I put these behind the rear seat of my Chevy crew cab. The reels are in their padded leather cases in the rear pouch of my vest, which lays on the rear seat.

Wherever I'm fishing, my truck will be there, also, so the rods and reela are handy.

If we have more than two people in the truck, I lay my vest, kreel, and net in the truck bed under the tonneau cover.

A poor man's rod case can be made from schedule 40 PVC, and a couple of end caps. Glue one on, use the other as the top. I've used them as walking staffs when back packing. A bit of foam in the bottom, and a rod sock complete the case.
