Head down to site six on the island in Havasu, Go west on McCulloch to the end and right next to the launch site. Plenty of free camping and close to every thing. You can google map the location to see other campers at the location. High today as of 12:30 98 degrees and cooling down to 78 - 80 for the evening. Life is good here. Paul & Linda

I may have missed in the postings WHERE on the Colorado River, but we camped in a BLM (Bureau of Land Management) "campground" right on the CO River (literally) near Moab, UT - close to Arches NP. No facilities whatsoever - no problem.

Page Arizona has a beautiful campground up on the lake. One of the nicest campgrounds I have been in.

I used to work at the Picacho State Recreation Area on the Calif. side of the Colorado river about 30 miles north of Yuma. Ther camping is primitive but it is right on the river. The road leading there cuts thru BLM land and that land that is not being mined is legal to camp on free.
Don't know if that rec area survived the budget cuts. It may be closed.

We have camped there. There are some nice sites all the way up the river. they put them in about 3-4 years ago. It's really nice. Plus you can camp right at the bottom of porcupine rim bike trail.

Also In Colorado "where the river originates" There are some state camp grounds is Fruita and Palisade on the river. Plus Fruita has some of the best mountain biking in the country. I'm sure there are some more further up in the mountains but I haven't really spent the time to look.

That looks good. Do you know how crowded it gets on weekends?

Picacho looks good too. I'll check that out on my next trip to AZ.

This past weekend being a holiday there was about 12 or 15 rigs, Yesterday we went down to swim the dogs and no one. The area stretches around to the north for 2+ miles and plenty of room for all. Not too worry there will be spots for several thousand if they were to show all at once. Even in the fall/winter months you will find 40 to 50 in the middle of snow bird season at its height. Lake temp is around 77/79 and perfect for cooling off. There is so many things to do here with the city having events on every weekend try it you will like it!

Very familiar with the city. I spent a lot of time there in the past and never heard of the place you suggested.

Is there a fee to camp in this area?

We'll be out there as soon as possible since we prefer the desert in the summer.

No fee's - very simple to find. On Mc Culloch Blvd go west over the bridge and keep going to the end before it swings right to the north. Nautical Inn is about half way there on the left, total distance is 1 3/4 to 2 miles tops. Cant miss it! Across the street is the walk park that circles the island, Use to be the Army Relief site for combat vets, Now its the free lauch site known as Site #6 - large parking lot for boat trailers, showers, restroom, garbage collection area and fishing docks. Go to google maps and take a look at the whole area - so much to do and secure to boot.

Any of the areas that are immediately adjacent to site six are free, No over night parking in the boat launch parking lot. Pick your spot there are plenty to choose from, most are level and all have views of the lake being that you are on an island. If you are familiar with the area than you would know it as the end of the old air strip that use to be on the island, in this case there is now a loop road around the island and you will be on the west end on the shore side.
