Campground suggestion around Tucson, AZ

We're going to Tucson at the end of Jan and would like to know where should we stay for a few days and what should we see?. We'll be coming from southern California and will stop over for one night on the way, probably around Quartzsite or somewhere closer to Phoenix. We'll need a full hookup site for Tucson stay but after that we're looking for a great place to camp for a couple more days on our way back to southern CA. We're not planing to go up north to Grand Canyon.
Thanks all for any suggestions,
Suti

Catalina State Park on the NE side of town (toward Oracle) and Gilbert Ray County Park on the west side would be my recommendations.

Ditto on Catalina, great place, though there is just power at the sites. I can't remember if there is water at each site, but there is a dump station at the entrance.

We like the Gilbert Ray County Park. Last year the price was $20 a night and there is always an available space, at least that's what the park person said.

Mike,
I think there is water and power at Catalina RV hookup sites. I remember having to wait for the sun to come up over the mountatin a couple years ago to thaw out our hose. Of course my memory could be faulty... I know you have to drive to the dump station. And I don't think open camp fires are allowed anywhere in Pima county. Barbecues are OK.

I think you are right about the water. I believe I've seen more Airstreams there than any park we've stayed at.

Airstreams LOVE Tucson and the southern desert.

Thanks guys. Are there other places I should consider staying on my way back to California? I have 2-3 extra days to spend.

Take a little side trip and drycamp at Organ Pipe National Monument. On the way, stop at Shadow Ridge Park in Ajo; it has full hook-ups, we're in 21.
