Cabela's is truly an impressive company.

Brad
That's the one Brad. My you have a windy state! I could barely push myself against the wind and when I remarked about it to a local clerk in the station he said, "This is nothing, there are days when the wind will blow your head right off." Made me chuckle and I will always remember the matter of fact way he delivered that information. We were just passing by and needed gas when I saw the Cabela's and were pleasantly surprised to find the campground. We decided to stay the night and take the tour the next morning.

Paula, me too, me too!

Michelle you won't be disappointed, this, the arch and Iowa 80 truck stop were my favorite stops along the road.

Here are shots of the full service campground.

And if you can't make it to the Cabela store, do not fret, it will come to you!!!...in the form of catalogues, almost weekly year 'round!!!..my hubby bought me a calf-length quilted hooded coat for Christmas a couple of years ago..the best answer to those 29 degrees weather days and nights!!

These were taken on the morning's tour. The place is HUGE! You could spend so much time there, a regular wonderland.

Carol,
We will be stopping at all those places. I will have friend with me travelling east. They don't travel much and are a big fan of Cabelas. The Iowa 80 truck stop will be on the list as well.

I live midway between two Cabelas in Minnesota; the one in Rogers is bigger than the one in Owatonna. Try it sometime.

A truly gigantic store is the one in Ft. Worth TX, over 225,000 sq ft!

But the largest (I think) is the one in Hamburg PA, a cool 1/4 million square feet.

That's just a good post. Brutal honesty. You probably could care less if they have a campground but that Mini, LOL...We have one 3 miles from us and the joke is over. This is getting serious and I might just need my own darn store since half of it's on lay-away anyway.

Yep, been to the Sidney Nebraska store...pretty amazing!

I'm not a hunter by any means, but the store is so much more than just 'a hunter's store'! We had a stopover night there a couple of years ago on a DenCO Unit Caravan. The campsite was very nice by any standards, but also convenient to the store. If you were "just looking" in the evening, you could go back for those "I'll think about it" purchases in the morning! Which I did...I had the dubious honor of spending the most money at the stop and Mr. InsideOut wasn't even with me! I did buy him a shirt....

I'm with you Kip...the new store is between home & work, better watch it once it opens! We also have a Bass Pro less than 20 miles away...very cool too, hard to pick between the two for me. It'll be interesting to see the competion in action...

Cabela's

I want a Cabela's! Right now I am having to satisfy myself with their catalogs. It's like getting the Airstream Life mag. I have to just sit down with the catalog when it arrives and look through it. I always know there will be something that I need!!!!

That would be somewhere in excess of $850 per year. I have them going back to 1982!

I see you are from TN. Cabela's is opening a store soon in Adairsville, GA. Check it out here.

Thanks Jim, you just gave me a great idea for a weekend road trip. We have a Bass Pro Shop where I live and I love it, but I have always wanted to see a Cabelas store.

Back in September I was on a hunting trip to South Dakota and we of course had to stop in Cabela's. I had to take a picture of the eerie clouds. The wind was just howling at the time. The locals said that these clouds have been coming in from the North but never have rain or hail.

We cannot pass a Cabela's store without stopping. I buy all of my outdoor clothing and hunting & fishing equipment there. (4 piece fly rods are not cheap!) We stayed at the one in Dundee, MI last July - Nice! Very neat Rv overnight area. We also use the Cabela's credit card for our traveling purchases which results in a 1% rebate to our Cabela's Club account (3% on purchases at Cabela's) that can be used for purchases at any of their stores. 2 years of traveling has gotten me a Freedom Arms .454 purchased with the accumulated rebate at the Kansas City store. Cabela's is my favorite store although my wife says that I always find too many things that I "need" that I didn't "need" before we stopped.

We stop at Cabela's every time we see one on the road. I will also admit that we have altered our route just to go by a Cabela's. It's probably a good thing for me that there is not a Cabela's in Florida.

Be sure to call the store first to confirm if they allow overnight camping. I recently heard from another forum member that even though the Cabela's have RV parking and a dump station, it doesn't mean they allow overnight parking. All it takes is a quick call to the store manager to confirm. Have fun!

The Cabela's in Sidney, NE has a full-blown, full-hookups campground...it's not 'free' and definately not boondocking, but very nice & reasonable....as long as you don't step foot in the store!
