Boondocking "Water Hog Airstreams"

Airstreams and RV's water wasters? A life of water usage at home travels into the back country and Off the Grid...

Imagine that. I am toting 39 gallons of fresh water in our Airstream and maybe one or two 5 gallon plastic jugs to supplement our excessive use of fresh water when Off the Grid for a week or more. Myself, my wife and two blue heelers: 3 gallons a day (?)

Average consumption per person per day (cppd) in the USA: 88 gallons
Montgomery County, Maryland cppd: 204 gallons
East Baton Rouge Parish, LA cppd: 144 gallons
Honolulu County, HI cppd: 144 gallons
Las Vegas, Clark County, NV cppd: 129 gallons

Those of you and your water wasting Airsteams should be ashamed of yourselves! I bet you squeeze every drop out of a lemon, as well. Shame on you, too.

Las Vegas Review Journal, Monday, December 21, 2015 page B5 Opinion Page: US Geological Survey study.

We Airstreamers can get by with ounces of water where those at home cannot. Over the years we have discovered that we use considerably LESS WATER than we use to at home. Our HOA questions our annual water consumption from our 484 foot well... too LOW. All of this because we conserve water when camping and when we return home.

I have no doubt that the majority of trailer campers have their stories to tell. Mine is just one of thousands.

This is why I want to switch to a composting toilet next. Even pouring the gray into the black tank to flush the goods, I still feel like I'm wasting water and energy that goes into cleaning that waste.

Composting toilet to reduce water usage

We will be replacing our stock toilet in our 2015 19' FC - it will be a tight fit. I am looking at the Nature's Head and the Air Head. Both seem well built. This will allow us more days in one place when we want it.
