Best levelers to level your trailer.

Now that you all have convince me to level our trailer I will need to purchase some levelers. So I am wondering what would work best with my Rotochok wheel chocks and would be easy to use.

Thanks

John

In my former TT, a large 36 footer I used plastic ramp type levelers that you pull the TT up on. They worked good however, once on the ramp the trailer had a tendency to roll back once unhooked, so wheel chocks had to be tapped in pretty good. This time I'm going to use the Lego type that come in a bag. In fact, I just bought them yesterday at Walmart. They give you the ability to adjust as you go along.

Not that many options

1) Lego type blocks - but with tandem axel it's hard to use these

2) a couple of those plastic ramps mentioned - rotochocks with them may work and you can get a pair of those on camping world for 40 bucks as I recall and you can pull only up as high as need level much like the Anderson levelers

3) Anderson levelers x 2 = 80 bucks and that system chocks off

4) wood - versatile - cheap

Probably more but those come to mind

If I already had the rotochocks I may consider the ramps from CW - they work and also you can use them to ride onto higher stack of Lego blocks if needed then use rotochocks

I bought the Anderson's to avoid buying rotochocks or similar device

PharmGeek summed it up pretty well.

I personally like the Lynx Levelers and have been using them for 15 years. I can use them to level the trailer or place them under the stabilizers to keep them from sinking in soft ground when deployed. You can also use them under your tongue jack or use them to level out a picnic table that's not on flat ground.

I also use them to change a tire, or use them under both wheels of the same axle to raise both wheels of the other axle when repacking bearings or working on brakes.

So... much more versatility for my purposes.

I keep Lynx ones as well for all those purposes as well

It's just impossible to level more than just on or two blocks high with them on a tandem axel

The ramps from CW can fix that issue and rotochocks can work?

I like the idea of those hydronic leveling systems - but $$$$$ and some maintenance problems with them per reviews

I used the blocks until I discovered the Andersen Levelers. Don't fear progress or change, embrace it.

Whatever you use, PLEASE secure the wheels BEFORE you unhitch.... I use the 'X chocks'... put between tires and crank tight.

For leveling, wood works well as it 'slides' less easily. Just cut a 1/2" or 3/4" board into 1x1 foot square chunks.. stack as needed. Also works good for 'spreading' the load when using bottle jack or other method to minimize 'sinking' into the surface.

I also carry some 'screw tripod' jacks which I place under the frame fore and aft of the axles to 'fine tune' the level AND minimize / eliminate 'trailer bounce' as you walk around over the axle area inside trailer.

The plastic blocks work well for me, but I have discovered that the solid ones are vastly superior to the open ones. How to tell them apart otherwise? The open ones have hex parts and are generally orange. The solid ones are more like lego blocks and are generally yellow. I have broken both kinds, but far fewer of the solid ones than the open ones.

I have Rotochoks and use them with the Andersen levelers and am very happy with the combination. I also carry Lynx blocks and sometimes use them with the stabilizers. The Andersen levelers are great, simplifying the set up process.

The lego style blocks placed with the bumps up sank into the sandy soil over night and the trailer was no longer level in the morning.....

We have four 12"x12"x1" and four 8"x8"x1" rubber mats and four 18"x18"x1/2" orange plastic mats. The 12" ands 18" mats can work as simple levelers for minor adjustments.
The Anderson arches are better for more height.

We can place a 8" mat on top of a pair of 4"x6"x16" treated wood blocks for the stabilizer feet when we need to get better support for the leveler due to undulations of the ground under the trailer.

Have two bags of legos but prefer these. It came a gully washer last night and the night before and we're still level. I carry two 2x12s and 1x6s. Only needed one 2x12 this time.

I recently switch from wood boards to the Andersen Levelers. They work great in conjunction with the expanding chocks that fit between your wheels. I use two of the Hensley Ultimate Tire Chocks and two of the Andersen Levelers. The combination is very stable and pretty easy to use.

I just watched a youtube video on the Anderson Levelers and was quite impressed, I may get a couple myself.

I have held off on getting those Andersen levelers (even though they are way cool) because I have only needed levelers 4-5 times in as many years.

Andersons would work fine on very firm ground but the contact area is minimal and they will sink in on softer terrain. I'll stick with my poor boy 2x12 approach and more square feet of contact area. I can also manage the poor boy approach without assistance. Looks like overrunning an Anderson could get exciting.

How many Lynx blocks do you have to use to raise one of the axles off the ground enough to remove a tire? Never tried it with mine.
