ummm..gypsy, that looks a little like the terrain from "The Hills Have Eyes"..

^^^^^. I don't think I'll let my son see that movie as there would be no boondocking for him in his future....had to see it though because of the 88 International that was in it...not for the faint of heart

This spot is National Forest so you will need to go get a pass for $5. The Forest Service location is south of town just a couple of miles.
Does this look like the spot. It's Red Canyon Rd if this is it...

One question on boondocking

Some of you are in the same boat as me. I have no grey water tank, so I have to use the big blue tank with the wheels that are worthless pieces of plastic that fell apart when I had about a mile to take it to the dump (another story.) So, what do you do if you don't have a grey tank? Just let it run out on the ground like everyone used to do?

Send a message via Skype™ to Zeppelinium
When you backpack into the National Forests (which are more restrictive than BLM land), there are general guidelines, like "no washing within 50' (or some nominal distance) of streams," or "no washing in established campsites," etc. Otherwise, grey water is not a problem unless there are specific restrictions, eg, "no cleaning fish here."

Common sense on grey water should suffice, if you get a backpacker's guide and follow it. Just be aware that boondocking locations, where a trailer can get to, will likely have more visitors than a random backpacker's camp, so I'd be reluctant to leave noticeable food scraps in my wash water.

I'd be interested to see if my interpretation meets community standards.

Thumbs up New Forum & Sub-forums!

This thread has been closed, because a new Forum with Regional Sub-Forums has been created.

Boondocking Forum

Thanks for the suggestion Zeppelinium!

When I get it all set up, I will do my best to copy & paste these posts to the appropriate locations...in the meantime, enjoy the new format!

Shari

Okay...so I thought I could untangle all these posts and put them into their new appropriate sub-forums...I was wrong, they are a bit to interwoven for the amount of time to dedicate to this task.

So, could those that have posted all these great boondocking locations re-post them in the appropriate sub-forum locations...sorry for the inconvience ~ but it will be better in the long run!

Here's a couple of tips, for easy reference & consistancy...
  • use the name or nearby location as the title of each new thread
  • list each location separtaely - so discussions can follow and be easier to track
  • include any special features or drawbacks to the location
  • see this thread for an example
Enjoy!

I've been informed this morning that it appears the links, maps and photos in some of these posts were lost in the move...I sincerely apologize for this, there is nothing wrong with any of that information (it's GREAT!), it should not have been effected by moving this thread or closing it. It must have been a program glitch in the process of starting the new forum.

Again, I apologize for the inconvenience...

Shari
