Yes, a generator might prevent your awning motor from burning out due to a low voltage condition. What a shame to have to spend $1000 on a generator when Airstream could have sold a more reliable option.
Two fellow travelers experienced motor burnout on our trip to Alaska this summer. It took a major effort on our parts to disconnect the awning arms and retract the awnings for safe travel. Needless to say they were without the use of their awnings for the balance of the trip. A workable quick release manual closing and opening feature would have helped immensely.
I've owned four new Airstream products since 2004. There were issues with each that could have been prevented by proper design and testing.
