Anyone boondocking over Thanksgiving?

Anyone else hitting the road over Thanksgiving. If so where are you going?

After Thursday with the family we'll be heading out Friday morning. Probably a rolling trip leaving SoCal and heading out the 40. South by Lake Havasou and then back West through 29 Palms etc. We'll spend the nights boondocking in the desert and stopping along the way to see this and that.

I used to go to the Olympic Peninsula and Kalaloch at Thanksgiving time. Was fun to cook a turkey in the AS oven and walk the beach. Or stay in if a big storm was coming through. Now I am in AZ in the winter, and the Argosy is up here in Idaho, so no travels with the trailer. Would be fun to have it down there, but no place to put it, and the cost of towing it down is too high for the little use I would put it to. So, it is summer toy only. Sigh...

That sounds like a nice combination between Idaho and Arizona.

Not this year; early cold weather changes cut off about three to four weeks! Limited places even to boondock.

Several of us are camping in New Braunfels, TX where we had a rally a couple of weeks ago. The park provides turkey and ham for a giant T day potluck on Thursday. The park is right on the river, and is right off the #1 scenic road in Texas.

Camping, but not boondocking. I'll be at DeGray Lake Resort State Park, just outside Bismarck, AR. It's got electric and water hookups, but no sewer hookups. I'll be doing some hiking on DeGray's five hiking trails, and probably some horseback riding; Thanksgiving week is the last week for horseback riding at DeGray until March, and it's been ages since I've been horseback riding.

I've heard reports that the lodge there puts on a respectable Thanksgiving spread, and camping at that park seems to be a decent compromise between my desire to camp and my desire to avoid cooking a Thanksgiving dinner for one.

Weather should be decent for my stay. The Weather Channel online extended forecast indicates overnight lows in the high 30's/low 40's, daytime highs in the low 60's all of Thanksgiving week. Highest rain chance is only 30% the whole week.

Lake Havasu without that funny

The weather is perfect this time of year in Lake Havasu and plenty of space for boondocking too choose from. Lots of things happening in town around that time. Paul & Linda
