Where to find skin...?

On my most recent trip I had a piece of skin fall off my trailer. I did not know the rivets were going out and I showed up in Seattle to find a big piece of my trailer gone.

Anyone have or know someone who has a wrecked rig from which I can salvage a piece? I've looked at buying it from Inland RV and having it shipped up, but they only have it in plastic. It is the Front Lower RH Banana Wrap. It measures about 3 ft long and 2 1/2 ft wide through the curve.

It is #16 in this image:

I would love it if someone local had the piece, but I would be willing to ship it if I can find a lead. I am located in Portland, Oregon.

I appreciate any help tracking this piece down. If you have any leads let me know.

The original metal banana wraps, have been obsolete for about 30 years.

Possibly you can find one at a salvage yard.

What you are looking for is called a banana wrap. If you want a used one, you can try Colaw RV salvage in Missouri.

Thanks guys. I was hoping someone on here may know someone with a salvage airstream. I have not had much luck finding any airstreams in salvage yards around here in Portland.

A bigger issue might be the overall condition of your belly pan assembly. If you lost a front banana wrap as you were traveling, it must have happened because of rivet failure, more than likely due to galvanic corrosion. You should crawl under the trailer and check all your rivets. You may need to replace your belly pan.
I hope that when your banana wrap came off on the freeway it didn't flip up and hurt someone. That's a big chunk of metal to leave for someone to hit at 70mph. You have a responsibility to others on the road to make sure your rig is safe.

Anyone else know anyone with a salvage trailer or a salvage yard with an airstream? I am still looking for this piece. Thanks!

If you still have the remains of the old banana wrap, it can probably be repaired. We have straightened out many banana wrap panels with our English Wheel. If it is gone completely, try calling Ryan Willets at www.rvrevive.com . He parts out damaged Airstream's & is very fair to deal with.
Good luck,
Colin

Thanks Colin. It is gone completely unfortunately. I called RV Revive, but they retired.

If anyone else has any leads let me know. I am really trying to find an original piece. I would hate to have to use the plastic banana wrap.

Colaw's Bone Yard

I was at Colaw's in Missouri in February. They do not have much for Airstreams. What they do have is for 1980s and newer. But even that is sketchy. Nice guys. Big salvage yard. Just not for vintage Airstreams.

Banana wraps for your trailer are available, but they are charcoal colored plastic.

They cost less than $ 70.00.
