What rivets for badges, rub rails, and belt line?

I am in the process of redoing a 1970 Overlander and noticed that all of the moldings and emblems are installed with simple pop rivets. This can't be correct can it? It just leaves a hundred little holes for water to get inside the skin. Were they originally buck riveted on, or olympic rivets?

Pop rivets it is...

On my '64, the rub rails were pop riveted on.

Emblems and nameplates buck riveted.

We used Closed End Blind Rivets. Bought them on Ebay, but these are the same thing: Closed End Blind Rivets | Rivets In Stock - Rivets & Rivet Tools
