I'd use .040 2024-T3, you will need approx a 4X4 foot piece. You can buy small pieces at Aircraft Spruce

ok thanks ill order a piece... i think this was replaced before by the po it is very thin and they have a another square piece pop riveted where the trailer plug is... i am going to order a new corner skin also because it is dented.... the PO must have did some work before because they have olympic rivets on the bottom skins on the front....... should i use buck rivets when i replace? looks like they used olympic rivets on the hold down plate and there are all but sherared off or missing

Solid shank rivets are always better then the blind rivets. Be sure to use MS20470AD5-x rivets for the hold down plate.

You may have to do some serious investigation to determine what the rest of your trailer is made of. Airstream started experimenting with using 6061 T6 instead of 2024 in the very early 70's (see the attached). My '73 is made of 6061 T6, and will take a shine, though I doubt it would match the look of mirror polished 2024 T3 Alclad.
