Haven't looked for one yet as I have no place to put it.I have access to two at work but I think I will wait till I have the trailer in a barn next year and the time to mess around with it.That will come a few years after as I have to build a house and the barn.
Just thhought I would give an update in case some of you thought I gave up.Replaced rivets in that front seam and added a strip under the skin to act as a dam.Did same on gutter over front window as PO had filled with holes for a rock guard.Installed gutter over Jalhousie and installed front clearance lights and new Airstream insignia.Started compounding front curved panels. Each panel is taking about 12 hours work to get to acceptable state. Also put a patch over antenna hole.Didn't get fancy there, trying to move forward some before I go back to work.Ran the sprinkler on nose today to try to isolate remaining leaks.Big one in seam of center top curved panel. Will clean that tomorrow and try sealing from inside.
your trailer is looking great, man! it really is. if i can bribe (beer!) some strong friends today, i should have my shell back on the frame, then it's time to start replacing panels, almost all of them, actually (save the end caps). i may PM you with process oriented and tool/material questions, if you don't mind? you've got more experience at this than me for sure! i just re-read the whole post to refresh myself of the steps you took. GREAT work. i hope i can make mine half as nice.
now to find a supplier of 040 2024t-3. i have a local guy that quoted me $190 a sheet for 4X12. that's the best price i've gotten so far. i wish i could find where lockhead is sending their scraps. i'm sure after i buy my last sheet, i'll figure it out.
You've done great work so far. Here is a photo of a must have tool for picking up holes from the inside.I bought it on ebay for $19. It is an offset drill attachment but is also called a stemboat drill or pork chop or pancake drill.
well, i got the drill attachment you recommended and an air nibler... now all that's left is the rivet gun. that's the expensive part! thanks for the advice so far. i'm hoping to start next week.
hey man, she's really looking nice! i can't wait to get new material on mine. hopefully i'll be picking up the 2024 sheets wednesday or thursday. rivets came in today! the gun, nibler and pancake drill supposedly this week as well. it'll be a busy weekend for me, if this weather holds. now for the dumb question of the day:
when i use the vulkem between the panels, do i need to take any precautions to keep the vulkem from gooping out all over the place? or does it wipe/polish right off?
Man Greg is that ever looking great! Hard to tell where the reflection starts and the actual reflected material ends. Kinda like the horizon when it meet the ocean on some days. Is that eyebrow over the door original? I don't recall ever seeing one like it.
Thanks. The eyebrow is not done yet.Was waiting till I got back to work from vacation. That's just a spare stringer taped over door to keep rain out for now.
What is a pancake drill? I need something that wont scratch as the the bit goes through the back panel, it always leaves a scratch rind around the hole.
