What type to use on exterior vent covers, etc? alluminum, or stainless steel?

Someone put screws that rust on these parts on my trailer...doubt it was the factory. I'm wondering if these parts were screwed on at all...or were they originally riveted?

My 74 Argosy motorhome had steel screws in the vents and ac mount. I know they were original as they were mostly covered with vulkem. Airstream probably figured this would seal them from the weather; it worked except for where they there was exposure. I replaced them with stainless screws and rivets. Aluminum screws are pretty weak, if they begin to corrode will probably snap if you have to remove them.
