Rivets

Bought some rivets from Aircraft Tool Supply Online Shopping
the part numbers are MS20470-5-4 with "4" character stamp on the top, on the MS20470-5-5 the character "R" stamp on top, this can't be right. Can universal rivets be bought without the character stamp on the top..............thanks

you left out the alloy code on the part number. It should be MS20470AD5-4 or -5. Its anybodys guess what type of materail the rivets are made of.

Yes depends on the alloy. Most aircraft rivets have some sort of mark on them so they can be identified.

I have no idea as to where they get their rivets from. I have seen rivets with a manufactures mark on them and that is most likely what you are seeing. The only thing that is required on an AD (2117-T3 aluminum) is a dimple in the center. If the letter is a issue you might try using a different supplier. A good supplier should be able to tell you with a simple spot check. I use this supplier Genuine Aircraft Hardware Co. and have seen nothing other then the dimple on my rivets, but you never know which supplier they will use next.

I'm looking at my many rivets from Aircraft Spruce and find all kinds of markings, including the center dimple on the AD (hard) type. One has almost 30% of the circumference filled with lettering. Time to change supplier!

Not that any of this can be seen from 3 feet away, mind you.
