For the outer skin you will need olympic rivets - you can get aluminum from www.airpartsinc.com/catalog2004_gif.htm

Smile Airstream rivets and skin

You need a finishing bit for your Olympic Rivets to get the nice round head look.

Another source for aluminum is www.wicksaircraft.com .Also I do not believe your trailer is made with 2024 .I believe it is either 5052 or 6061.I've tried to get an answer as to which aluminum was used on newer coaches but have had no luck.My 1961 is all 2024-t3 .032 alclad.

The sections that i'm replacing are behind the rear wheels on both sides. I'm going to be painting everything underneath the belt line. Couldn't I just get the thinnest possibel sheet?

Airstream trailers are a Monocoque body (look it up).Take the time to find out what aluminum they used on your trailer and replace it with same, or you will have problems.

I would think it correct to use the same type of aluminum since the Monocoque Body design would keep its integerity and the strength would remain the same.

When you buy new aluminum does it have the plasticoat on it or is that something that you have to have applied?

You guys are a wealth of knowledge. I am in search of a airstream and have been peering in for a while, learning and absorbing all that I can. I signed on yesterday so that I can begin to contribute in the areas that I can and just follow, listen and learn where I can't.

Welcome to the forum, we look forward to hearing from you. What model/length/year are you looking for? Perhaps someone on the list will be able to help in your search
