Replacement for exterior trim rivets

I’ve removed the exterior aluminum trim strips to refinish them, my question is: can I use screws to put them back on with? They would be covered by the vinyl strips.

What type and size screw?

How would I seal them and what product would I use?

try #8 3/4" stainless and use a dab of trempro 635. This will let you go back to 5/32 rivets later if you wish. If the rivets you drilled out were 1/4" you may need to use #6 stainless to not enlarge the hole.

I am afraid some of the holes are already a little stretched out, not pretty getting some of those rivets out. I better use the #8’s I guess. Good thing it won’t show. I guess I better loosen up the purse strings and get some riveting tools. It will be awhile but I will post a picture when I get started on it. Got to get it painted first. Thank you very much, especially for the quick response.

Off topic, but you wouldn’t by any chance know of any service providers in my area that would know how to paint a stripped aluminum Argosy, got a dent in the front steel cap that needs fixed also. Anywhere within 200 miles of Omaha/Council Bluffs area could work. I best start looking now. Thanks again.

Been there done that on an Airstream trailer. Yep #8 3/4” stainless. Sikaflex to seal.

I would think you can get anyone to paint it, and fix the dent which will just be filled and sanded over. A truck painter would know about aluminum, and probably have the big bay needed to get it indoors and dust free.

A pop rivet tool is $20
100 aluminum rivets $5

Stainless screws would cost me more ( maybe )

You don't need a buck rivet gun and tools for this

I have never had an Argosy, but considering that it is painted, seems that any good auto body shop could pull dents and even "bondo" and paint.
But then finding a "good" shop might be hard
