This weekends project is to install a Dometic Brisk Air A/C unit on the roof. The new opening is in and framed out with the headlining ready to put back in

But as is usually the case, there’s a small glitch.
Sometime in the old girls past she was pulled under something a bit too low. I’m guessing tree branch. Well, most of the damage has been fixed, except for this springy area on the roof between the center and rear vents. It’ll pop up and down about ¾ of an inch. While the front of the A/C unit sits above a good roof rib the rear needs to be supported on, you guessed it, the soft spot.
No problem. Just put in a stiffener between the horizontal stringers. The issue is that this isn’t an aluminum angle. It’s a thin stringer riveted to the shell with a snapped on rib. I’m certain that just installing the stiffener on the rib will cause it to pop off over the first bump.
I envision riveting through the stringer and rib before putting in the stiffener.
Here’s my question to the shell Gurus. Why would they design and install this arrangement? (In my biz it’s a “manufacturing concession”). Do you see any issues with riveting this assembly to the roof? Or am I over-engineering the thing and I should just drop the whole idea?
