Pictures of rivet procedures missing
Could you please re-post the photos of the procedure for rivets. All that comes up now is a bunch of boxes with red X's in them. Thank you

Read post # 57.
The proper drill size is a # 21.
A # 20, as some people use, provides a loose fit, which allows the metal to slightly move around the rivet shank.

As well as the great video posted above, the original poster re-posted the images he had put into post #1 into a new post he did, post #47.

Here is a great rivet removal tool:
Rivet Removal Tool`
It comes with several bits, including #21 and #30. #21 for exterior buck rivets, and #30 for interior skin rivets. You just order the extra bits you need. The tool does not slip off the head, and so you hit the center every time.

Just found the pics
Didn't realize the pics were in the middle of the thread . . . post #47, yes, #47, yep, saw everyone said post #47 after I posted my Q.
The video on post #62 is great too.
I saw Andy said you don't have to buy the expensive shaver . . . a metal file works as well to shave the pin sticking out after it's clipped. I think we'll go that route first, since we don't have too many to work on right now.
There is such a wealth of knowledge BURIED here in the forums. I have to admit to a little anger trying to find specific information. Many hours digging through posts to find the small pearl I need.
Has anyone out there had it on their heart to put together a great tutorial site with pics/video, well organized by specific issue. We have found one person who wrote a book, but it's pretty expensive, and you can't preview the quality or information. I feel so helpless being ignorant of everything we're getting into. Good thing we're willing to learn and work! We cannot be defeated and we will not quit!

I used a dremel tool to clean up a bunch of rivets I install when I added a street side awning. They looked pretty good and I left them that way for several months. You can always find someone who has a shaver later and give them that final shave. I wound up shaving mine in the snow last year at a rally in Northern Colorado.

Rivet shaver bit mounting details
I found a guy who has a counter sink cage that I believe will hold an Olympic rivet shaver bit. Does anyone know how the shaver mounts into the cage-does it use the standard 1/4X 28 thread?? If this works out I will post my findings. Also, is there anywhere to buy the shaver bit for less than the $100+ I see at VTS etc. ??
This may be a poor place for this question, but is there a way to make the forum search function work better?? When I search I get such generalized results its almost not worth the effort.
Thanks in advance, John

wee bit lost trying to find an answer to my question on this topic, I'm replacing a curbside curved window and the olympic rivets are too big to fit in the holes. Called the supplier and they said it was the right size??? I need to know if there is indeed a smaller size or different rivet I need to be using. If not what is the procedure, opening the hole with a nail punch or drill?

The window was originally installed with "buck rivets" which are 1/8 inch in diameter.
The replacement window can be installed the same way, if you so wish.
Or, the simple way, is to install it with Olympic rivets, which are 5/32 inch in diameter.
You must drill to enlarge the window holes as well as make new holes in the sheet metal. You shouild also use "vulkem sealer" on the backside of the window to seal it properly.
The correct drill size to use for the Olympic rivets is a #21 drill bit.

Thx Andy another question
So it's better to use the Olympic instead of the Bucket? Also, on the top right corner, whoever removed the window tore 2 of the rivet holes and they are now connected/open/joined together, I'm assuming that I should back/reinforce this area with a strip of aluminium? Many thanks.

So, I needed to remove a few Olympic rivets and now want to replace them with bucked rivets. What size rivet should I be searching for, 5/32?
Thanks,
Tony

Tony.
No, we don't, but Aircraft Spruce does.
Their phone number is 1-877-4777823
You probably want # 5-6 or 5-8 AN470A rivets.
