Let's see your patches!
I'm going to need to patch a few areas on my skin and am interested in patching methods and shapes. I've seen some unique and interesting shapes. Lets see yours.

heres our finished patch after polishing (we went with an on demand water heater so closed up the old HW heater vent)
heres a close up. you can see that with our first few olympics, we used a dremmel to sand it down after clipping it. after the 1st one or 2, i surrounded each olympic rivet with blue painters tape so i didnt scratch up the aluminum with the sander. learn from our mistakes! i didn't buy the $200 olympic rivet finishing tool, i didnt think it was necessary. almost all of the little scratches from sanding buffed out w/ polishing.

NJtoNC,
Looks good, was wondering how much to overlap. We hope to be CAtoSC someday soon. Hope some more post their pics, my patches are not going to be anywhere near that large and because I have the interior skins removed, be going with buck rivets. I have a patch to do at the front corner next to the window where the TV antenna gizmo was attached, old AC holes in roof, furnace exhaust holes and I think where the front window protector brackets attached.

I patched both antenna's on my 65 Safari. You can see the patch on the upper right side over the radio antenna hole and just to the left of the Air sticker covering the tv antenna.....TK

My Motorhome is from '84, so what material and thickness should I get to do some patches?
I have seen Rems of 3003, 5052, and 6061 in various thicknesses at my local metal suppy place.
I already picked up some 5052 in .090" and .050"...

6061-T6 is pretty good stuff. 5052 is soft and made for die forming and easy bending so I would not go less than .040 thick on that. .032 should be fine in 6061-T6 or 2024-T3 Alclad. Any alloy that is Alclad will polish better and resist corrosion. 5052 will polish well since it is a low temper alloy. Aircraft Spruce should have what you need. A city of any size should have a sheet metal distributor or welding supply shop that can get what you need. If you want small sheets, you can get those from mcmaster.com.

Pretty cool normally I resist the urge to get a tattoo but the aluminum ones look good and serve the purpose.

Frankenpatch
The PO must have been an artist. He blended this patch right in. Can you make it out? I see it as abstract art that means different things to different people. To me this patch says change me. I have all the shaped segments for the entire end. All I need is to get to the point that I can install them. For now the Frankenpatch end of the trailer points away from the house and out of sight.

Wow That is some interesting patchwork. Are the patches held on with sheetmetal screws?

Yep. Not even stainless. The rust stands out a bit. To be fair, I must say it does not let water in.

Finished riveting after dark, and it looks like I messed up one of these rivets, but don't feel like redoing. (Didn't the Navaho blanket weavers put an error in, so as not to offend the gods? If so the gods will be bonkers over this project !!)
