I thought i would add my recent patch to the list to give some ideas to others, like this post already did for me...

The idea is that We'll engrave the National Parks and the date we went as check them off our list....

This patch covers the old furnace holes behind the door.

Inspired by your collective creativity we’re going to patch this largish hole with a compass rose design.

My question is whether or not we need a rivet through the patch for each of the drill holes? Or can the patch overlap them all and be riveted where it makes sense?

I didn't do anything with the holes that my patch covered, except put some vulkem over them from the inside. The holes my patch didn't cover were riveted.

Great idea on the compass rose btw.

Hope that helps

shaving the olympic rivets?

This thread has inspired me to patch up two tears in the outer skins...they seem to have been caused by the mounts for the rock guards in the front of the coach. The good news is that the tears are in the exact same spot on either side of the trailer, and they are about the same size...so...matching patches!

I'm just wondering what everyone uses to shave the Olympic rivets after patching? A Dremel tool? A $325 Gesipa rivet shaver? Or a carbide bit with a "no-mar microstop" like this one:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B005Z15DH4/

If you do use a carbide bit, which size do you use?

First attempt at a patch. I learned that I need to plan my rivet placement before I'm standing on a ladder ten feet in the air. The next one will have the rivets evenly spaced.

I found this thread by accident and I thought I might revive it as I found it interesting.
The trailer I am rebuilding needs multiple patches because of holes of corrosion. For some I try to blend them as much as I can to make them look factory, for some I hide them in plain sight.
Here is the very first one I made on the roof to patch the antenna mount. I was not trying to hide this one as it is on the roof and is now covered with white paint. That was merely an training session at buck rivets. Please take the time to appreciate the patch by the previous owner. I used a piece of the old entry door to make the patch.

For the second one, still on the roof, I wanted to hide the corroded bathroom vent and the tank vent. So I made a bigger hole and a fridge vent cover. And Voila, nobody knows... except for the second fridge vent cover on the roof. I am going to vent everything in my trailer via both "fridge" vents. The sheet that plugs the hole is mounted with rivet nuts and screws so it can be removed easily in the future when I get to that.
Next step is patching the porch light hole.
