Exclamation Holy Rivets!

We are planning on either replacing Maxwell's streetside panel &/or installing Birdy's drip cap this weekend. Earlier this week I ordered 300 Olympic rivets* from VTS for $68.55 including shipping. We were down to about 20 on-hand - so with the 300 I ordered, we should have enough to do either job, but not both. Being optimistic, I realized we would need some more "just in case" we get done with one project & start the second this weekend. So, we stopped by the Airstream dealer here in town to pick up some more. I was prepared to buy another 300...

OMG! They were $.79 EACH ($237.00+tax for 300) and no quantity discount! I couldn't believe it...thank goodness for VTS! Needless to say, I placed another 300 rivet order with VTS and we will only be tackling one project this weekend.

Shari

* For those of you hyper-critical of Olympic rivets...get over it. The interior of Maxwell is imacculate - including the original Zolatone. This is NOT a total restoration nor are we going to remove the interior skins to buck rivets - we're just replacing a panel that has already been replaced before by a PO using Olympics, it's held up just fine...it's an AirSTREAM not an AirPLANE!

Shari,

Calm down, for heavens sakes.

Okay Bill...sorry, I'll take some deep breaths and go drill out some rivets...I just didn't want this thread to "go there".

Gee...thanks Richard, I'll be "right over"...you gonna leave a light on for me? You know, I could probably get a RT plane ticket for the same price as 300 rivets at the dealer!

at that price...

Shari-

At that price, I hope they're giving a cut to Michael Phelps, Natalie Coughlin and a host of others!

Shari,

The local Denver A/S dealer is horrible. Stick with VTS

Vts

Oh Man, What would I do with out them! If you are looking for trailer parts, rivets, tools or other cool trailer repair stuff vintagetrailersupply.com is the place to go. I have used them for some time now, 100's of rivets and locks and a toilet, outside outlet cover and stuff I just can't remember. It seems they are the lowest cost and if not they are still the best place to shop, you on this list need to support these guys they are great!

Shari, I could send you some rivets, I have a new supply that I though I would need for the 88 but I found the leak!

Ed
with a 59, 68 and a 88 with a TON of VTS stuff on them,
god I love those guys (and gals)!

Thanks Ed! I think we eat them like candy around here...I keep thinking, this is the last batch of rivets, surely that'll get us through. But noOOOooo, gotta keep going back for more. I've lost count at this point and to think, we bucked most of them on Birdy. If I had a 8 year old, I'd ask them to count them!

We have at least "one of everything" from VYS...with two trailers, that's not hard!

Shari

The lone AS dealer in Minnesota would not sell even a single Olympic rivet. No other RV dealer I checked with had them. I called VTS after 4pm their time on a Friday... and had them at noon Monday.
