Girlfriend doesn't like Airstreams
So she bought an SOB motor home. She asked me to park it as close as I could to the right of my trailer. I told her that she would have to exit to the left so that her rear end wouldn't take out my trailer. She assumed that I was being to overly protective of my pride and joy, and ignored my warning. You can guess what happened. I now have to reattach my curbside reflector lens. It's going to take at least two whole rivets to get the job done. Probably eat up at least ten minutes, not to mention the wear and tear on my rivet gun.
...... The SOB had some minor damage. The back panel split away from the frame on the bottom and both sides. Most of the frame is still hanging in there but a pile of wood is sitting in the driveway, next to my intact reflector. I am planning on sweeping up her frame after I reattach my reflector.

A lot of these stories end up "I'm going to miss her." But hang in there Dave!
A younger brother had a bright lemon (in a number of ways) DeTomaso Pantera in the mid-70s. They baked lasagna and invited our extended family over on a Sunday afternoon ... apartment parking lot totally empty ... my dear grandmother parked right next to his car. And you know what happened...

There are a lot more potential girl friends than there are airstreams.

Dave, maybe you should have started a poll on whether to get rid of her.
It probably wouldn't have given you very good advice, but you'd learn something about Forum members.

I don't know how really true this statement is; finding just the right person to spend your time with is perhaps even more difficult than find that special Airstream. I never run out of possible AS for myself or others but it took me 43 years to find Sandi!

I concur. It has always been my personal belief that I will probably only encounter a handful of Women in my life that could be truly compatible mates. The odds of actually entering into a relation with one (IMHO) lessens the odds even more. So if you have a “Keeper” (in your eyes) then hang on to her.
But...
You could use the damage comparison as your justification to her why Airstreams are worthwhile. If she still balks...place a classified ad for a new GF who likes pina coladas, getting caught in the rain, not in to yoga, and has half a brain, etc....
Regards,
Kevin

Dave,
A good woman, like a good man may be hard to find. A good AS is also hard to find. Fix the trailer and do some remedial driver's training and love the little woman. Forgive and forget!

Wow, that's one heck of a strong reflector lens you got there? Where can I get one?

Im not sure how someone could not love an airstream. There are many women out there who do Im sure or would be open to loving them. Especially a polished one! Something about shiny aluminum. Guess my hubby got lucky!

Photos of your girlfriends rear end and frame damage would help determine what/which should be replaced

Dave,
It took me 45 years to find Barb, well, actually less since I didn't start looking until I was 6, so 39 years. There was a lot of fun in that 39 year search, but none of them were the right one. So, you have to think this through…
Is the dislike of Airstreams a character flaw and if so, is it a major or minor one?
What is the hidden message in damaging the Airstream while causing even more damage to the SOB?
Would the difference in design preferences carry over to houses? Would she like a tract home while you like a custom home, for example?
What are the chances of finding another girlfriend out of the three billion plus females in the world?
Does she like mandolins?
Is Ms. Tin Hut available?

Alumates
I've been attracted to Airstreams since the early 60's - my mom & I kept after my dad to trade in the '57 16' Shasta for a Bambi! Dad kept mumbling something about $$ that was beyond the scope of my 10 year old mind at the time. Yet, mom & I kept lusting after those sleek trailers with true inside plumbing!
My husband & his dad purchased, in the early 70's (before we met), a 31' Sovereign for traveling with their fledgling computer business.
So, early on in the marriage, when we both got that "gleam" in our eyes that it was time to go for a trailer, it was a 66 Overlander! Thirty years later (this month). through all kinds of weather, repairs, and 5 Airstreams later, we're still together in the Airstream!
So, hang in there Dave - there are "alumates" out there!

Four Airstreams, one honey. 32 years of marrige; some potholes, but that's life. There's the old joke about why there are so many RV rigs for sale in Arizona; it was not that anyone died; it was they realized that being together 24-7 sucked!

Be thankful for: 1) minimal damage to your Airstream, and, 2) you haven't "tied the knot" yet..........my vote is for a new girlfriend; one who won't ignore your warnings!!

Not everyone gets my sense of humor.....
I really have to post a picture of the reflector. It's pretty darn massive, as in, I wouldn't want it to drop on my foot. ( ha ha ) That was my message.
Yeah, I could never find another woman like my lady. Yeah, stuff is just stuff. It's just that some stuff is better than other stuff. Just like my reflector is better than her motor home ( ha ha )
to Gene: She much prefers my guitar playing to my mandolin playing. I much prefer my reflector to a rattle trap SOB. ( again ha ha )
