Exterior Patch for 1961 Overlander

We removed the heater from our 1961 and want to cover the opening. We are wondering what type of aluminum to use? We have an extra panel from an interior repair (paint on one side but bare aluminum on the inside) and wondered if that was the same type of aluminum used for the exterior... OR do we need to order material? Where would you recommend ordering from? Type, model, etc. THANKS!!!

Wondering if it will "shine" and/or polish like the exterior...

Hi there. I did a Google search for patches in the forum and I'm hoping the link below takes you to several threads that may help. I'm not sure what material you'd need but you may find it in one of these threads. Good luck!

2024T3 aircraft aluminum 0.032" thickness is what Airstream used for the exterior in those early years. Aircraft Spruce and Specialty Company is one source.

In the 60s the interior aluminum was the same as the exterior. Give it a polish and you will see.
