Does anyone know a source for vent plug

Hello everyone, I have looked and looked. There is a 1 1/16th " hole above the rear access door on the curbside that had a screened plug for battery vent. If I cant find a plug to fit, Can I use the proper rivets on a patch with my old arrow hand held riveter and then polish of the heads. Robert

Try a two-way radio or cb shop. The old extra large whip antennas, like the one on Andy Taylor’s police car in Mayberry, employed a large hole through the body panel. A similarly large rubber plug is available to stopper this hole when the antenna is un-installed.

Your patch theory seems sound, as well. A well-applied repair always adds an air of TLC, in my opinion. After all, anyone can pay to have the panel replaced, but not all have the energy or craft to repair for themselves.

Well Gary, If I can find the orig. plug I'll keep it. I no longer need it and I have tried the flush chrome plugs w/tabs but their 1" or 1 1/4". Before I make the hole bigger I will have my buddy laser cut a patch of some sorts and I'll rivet it on. I don't know yet if I can find an olympic smaller than 5/16. Mabey a four leaf clover patch as I need all of the luck I can get with the old girl. Robert

You could use a 1" aluminum round eave vent - they have a wide lip on them that you could parbond it to the skin or use Alcoa gutter seal. On the other hand the cloverleaf idea is kinda cool....

Round Mini Vents

• Ideal for intake ventilation in smaller structures where soffit is less than 5” wide
• All aluminum construction for durability
• 1/8” louvered openings meet National Code Standards
• Mill finish

Models / Sizes:
MV 1” (1” diameter)
MV 2” (2” diameter)
MV 3” (3” diameter)
MV 4” (4” diameter)

Hi Gary, you know those soffit vents look like the orig. Who knows AS may have used them in 71. The factory had no record in the parts dept. And they forwarded the question to service. No reply yet but the screen let water on to the top of the compartment door flange and then rolled to who knows. I think I'll ask my buddy to get me a patch out of stainless as an accent. I have an AGM now so from what I've read I no longer need the vent. Whenever your ready to swap help on our shocks let me know. Robert
