I pounded our considerable dents out with a couple of automotive bodywork hammers from O'Reilly auto parts. Once they are rolled with Kyps roller they will look great. And if I can do it anyone can!

I used hammers as well which worked fairly well, but need to finish them. I guess I'll try the roller. The hammers seems mighty brutal for the aluminum, even when being very light. Would a roller (without the hammers) be better?

Kay,
If you hammer aluminum with any kind of solid backing, you will expand it and create a permanent bubble in the shape. So if you are hammering (lightly) from one side, maybe that is quasi-OK. Otherwise, always roll out dents in aluminum and never ever hammer them out. Kip told me this and I thought, well, some moderate hammering can't hurt. Boy, was I wrong.

Dent repair with roller
My trailer had this dent when I bought it.
I used a jack with a form to carefully push the dent up and then heat from a commercial heat gun and a steel roller to roll the dent out. The aluminum would actually move with just the heat. I reheated and re-rolled several times, until I was satisfied I had done the best I could do.
This was no big deal. I spent more time getting the lights all working and the 7-way hooked up than I spent on the dent repair.
I showed the steps on my blog on the link at the left under my username.

Wow, all that heating and rolling made it go shiny all over too! Nice!

Ummm, I don't think I expanded the metal any, Zep. I don't have any bubbled areas. I was careful because I knew I could "stretch" it out of shape. Besides, Kyp said he "whaled" (or words to that effect) on his on his table saw before he rolled them, so I figured I could too since I'm not nearly as strong. I tried rolling but I'm not strong enough to do much. Thanks for the words of wisdom, though. Hopefully, I won't have any more dents to do!

Greating from downtown Salina Kansas, I'm going to be here until 5 June. The banana wraps are made of some alloy that is extreamly soft so beating the sh1t of of them really does not stretch the aluminum to terribly much, and the results are better then I thought possible.

Hi Kip!
Busy Man...
Do you have time to get another batch and bring them to the Restoration Rally/Seminar?
For anyone who doesn't know, here is the thread.

No hurry
Don't worry, at this rate I won't get my inner skins out until August.
I would love to see some sort of video describing the process used
to remove the dents. Although it doesn't seem that complex.
Thanks in advance,
TIMK

As a stopgap would something like a fondant roller or other wood roller work? Maybe not durable enough but I have not done any rolling yet so not sure of the durability reqts. http://item.mobileweb.ebay.com/viewi...d=380426987747
