Can I use this riveter for bucking rivets?

Santa Claus brought me a central pneumatic air riveter and the time is getting close to need it. I hope it works ok harbor freight and all! i know it will be fine for blind rivets for the belly pan, but I am unsure about the bucks around the windows I will be taking out and putting back in? I am not rich but I am not scared to buy the right tool for the job. I appreciate any recommendations.

Just curious, why do you need to rivet around the windows?

You can't use a pneumatic air riveter for bucking rivets.

buck rivets are a different animal than pop rivets. You need a different type of rivet gun for buck rivets like this:

You could use your HF rivet gun with olympic rivets around your windows, but you'll have to shave them or shape them with a dremel tool to get a buck rivet look.

I need to remove street side wing window and rebuild because it is holding water and the seal between the two pieces of glass is mush. I want to use bucked rivets instead of olympic.

That phnematic should work just fine.I helped rebuild a 53ft semi-trailer several years ago that consisted of thousands of rivets and thats what we used. You will need the bucking tool and another person to make it work.

Is it possible to rebuild the window without taking it out? We took ours out to rebuild them (but found out later we could have done it without removing them.)

If you have never installed bucked rivets, get some scrap and practice. It is not hard to learn but it is a skill. You can really mess up the skin of your trailer if you don't know what you are doing.

Someday59, do you know of a link with info on the wing window rebuild without removal? I see all the screws on the frame covered with vulkem on the inside!

Benny you will need to remove the wing window to pull it apart to rebuild. The straight vertical section of the frame is screwed into the curved section of the frame at both the top and bottom edge. In order to get at the screws the window frame has to come out. It also need to be out of the trailer for the frame to come apart. The hard part will be getting a new gasket. I have one of mine apart and am planning to take it to a window store and see what they can find for a gasket. It will also be hard to find the right thickness of pre-shimmed butyl tape that goes between the two panes of glass. I was able to find it at the window store but it was some old stock they had for quite some time.

i do not reccomend rebucking the wing windows,, i would def recommend go olympic, simply because it will pull the window in much more tight and use this grey butyl tape between window frame and body,, then use grey tempro sealand around the inside frame,, if there shaved right youll never know the differance..

That's strange we all have 73's yet my wing windows are different than Jim's. I guess you'll have to see what kind you have in yours

My windows are totally different. I just know that we *thought* we had to take ours out but if we did it again, we wouldn't.

yes his link was very helpful, I just didnt have time to try it yet, I need to order all the gaskets for all windows, doors, vents etc. I already have all my sealants. I am also trying to figure out how to respond to a particular message. Thanks for your input.
