battery box modification

I want to remove the lid to our battery box on a 2016 26U before replacing it with a slightly taller lid to accomodate larger AGM batteries. Am I correct that I can use a 1/8" bit to drill out the rivets in the piano hinge? I am making a 2" higher lid that should have minimal impact on opening the storage compartment door located directly above. Anyone else with experience tackling this problem?

Yep. Drill em out. Vinnies has a battery box extender. Easy install and it works great. BUT. Do not put your AGM batteries outside.
