Back skin normal?

Looking at this 25 tradewind tomorrow. It looks like the skin looks a little bubbled on the back side at the rivets around the wheel wells. I've read about separation issues. Want to make sure I am not missing something, as this would be my first Airstream. This trailer looks well cared for and was told the back floor was solid.

It's just so much easier if you post as many pictures of the trailer as possible

Yeah, that's what I thought too. I had two other guys look at my rear end for the separation issue and even they didn't discern the wood rot. I found it after 2 years of poking around and even removing the bathroom carpeting. I didn't notice until I did some really close inspection of the area in the rear compartment/storage area. I presume my damage is due to the typical rear bumper hatch cover/trim leak. Mine is not showing rear separation yet - but with the wood damage, I expect it is forthcoming. So, while the floor might be solid on the interior, the edges where it secures into the C-channel might not be....

Do your own inspection and don't rely on only what the owners say. Not that they are trying to deceive you - but maybe they aren't as *informed* as others. The Previous Owner (PO) of my trailer said it didn't leak - which is pretty unlikely with any year trailer. I didn't notice leaks until the time that I didn't have it level (i.e. too low in the front and too lazy to fix) and the rain water ran in. Next time it was level and it was much less obvious. The PO didn't know about axles wearing out, rear end sep, gaskets rotting or ..... Well, you get the idea!

Happy hunting and I hope that trailer IS solid!

Laura

Stand a bit ahead & behind of both front & rear corners of the Tradewind. Viewing at a shallow glancing angle, concentrate on the side skin just above & behind each wheel well. Does it look like it stays flat through this area? Is there any slight change of light reflection suggesting the skin has developed a slight bulge or hollow just aft of either wheel well?

Such a change could be indicative that the frame has sagged due to separation of connection at the lower rear of the shell.

Pictures sure would help once you get to see the coach -- taken at the same glancing angle.

This may help explain a few things. The current owner just explained that previous to his buying, the trailer caught a camp site marker on the street side. The insurance company scrapped the trailer, but the trailer was later repaired and sold with a salvaged title.
