Aluminum roofing patch is discoloring

I am restoring a 68 Safari. Last fall I patched the roof with a piece of roofing aluminum and sealed it with GE Silicone II. It is discoloring (whitish). Does anyone know what's happening and what to do about it?

Thanks.

I think silicone is just a temporary solution, roofing tape is a better idea. It would help more if you said what type of roofing aluminum.

Silicone is a no no for A/S. It corrodes the aluminium.
Andy I'm surprised you didn't jump all over this?

Chris.

I did in post # 2, above.

But no answer to my question.

How is your Excella coming along?

Andy

I'm no aluminum expert but I do know there are many different aluminum alloys. Is your "roofing aluminum" hardware store flashing? There is probably an alloy which is a much better match. Maybe someone else who knows more about specific alloys will jump in here.

Ditto on the silicone.

Ah, progress.

Hopefully, that white stuff (snow) will hold off until the shell is secure from the weather.

Silicone, a piece of roofing aluminum and restoration.

Which one does not belong
