5052-H34 is a good option fairly stiff but still malable, it does not crack easily. Primary alloying element is Magnessium

another busy day. I took the double pane wing window apart and cleaned up the outer pane and checked it to size with my single pane. It's the same size but 1/16 thicker. In the process of removing the Plexiglas from my window I broke the plexi in many pieces, I'm committed now. I could not use the gray gasket due to the increased thickness of the new glass. I next straightened my frame up and cleaned it up. I put soap on the new glass and it slipped right into the frame. Tomorrow I will inject sealant between the glass and aluminum.

While I was at it I went done to our local aluminum and bought 3 sheets of .040 5052-H34 to use as the main belly pan which I will cut on the shear at work tomorrow. I then rough cut the small section of pan out of pieces I had left. I have to get the belly pan, brake wires and window installed this weekend if I have any chance of taking the GT to the FCU restoration rally.

I saw the pieces before I read your text--heart attack!

Hey, in your fourth photo, what are those pointy pieces?

Man, 0.040 for belly pan! Are you expecting to run across in IED or something?

The pointy pieces are the belly pans that attach to the bannana wrap and then inboard to the frame.

I went with .040 because he gave me a very good price on it. $45 a sheet, and I like the added rigidity with a negligable weight increase.

Kip, this will provide a great comparison of window sealing methods at the 4CU rally! Looks really pro.

I got most of the forward belly skin installed this weekend. I also shot on the new GLASS street side wing window. I'm running out of time

go for it, dude. an .040 bellypan would be considered a 'six-pack' in kidspeak these days...or a skid plate! nice work on the window...we're rooting for you to make the resto-rally... wish I could join in just to meet a few of the gurus...

I'm going to have to start going over there after work (it's at my dad's about 10 miles away) to get it ready. Tonight I am going to run the brake wires and temporary tail light wiring. I have my wife looking for new tires today. I still haven't hooked up my new P3 brake controller yet either.

Way to go! I took the Sovereign out for a test yesterday and besides 3 life-threatening stupid trailer towing errors, I also had 5 water leaks (none of them PEX related)--madly scrambling to fix them today...

See you Friday in the land of chili

I had a wonderful time at the FCU Restoration rally and meet a lot of nice people. I had such a good time that I forgot to take the camera out of the truck. I had absolutely no problems with either the truck or the Globetrotter, as there was nothing in the GT to go wrong. I did take a picture in a New Mexico rest stop on the way down and another at down town Fort Union.
