Get out there!
Remember, almost anytime is a good time to camp along our coast, especially as you move south.
(But then, you knew that...)

This kid was only 24 years old and working as an apprentice in a cabinent shop. I dont think the lead guy in that shop would have taken the time he did. He was so proud to show me his work. The maple wood really comes through now. He really did it justice..
and we exchanged no money and were both very happy. I going to keep his number.

Thanks for all your feedback

Welcome to the forums.. This is a great place for information and you will meet "virtually" and possibly in person some awesome people. I suggest you create a new post in the new members area and tell a bit of your story and what you plan to do. More people will see that and there may be some interest in your trade.

Welcome

Vinnie

Well I think I got the best barter of the century this year! Two years ago a surgeon recontructed my entire back, at the same time I lost my job as a nurse and had to go on disability. During this time I started taking art lessons and found I had an incredible new talent.
Then suddenly this March, the one free standing disk left in my spine gave way and he had to do two ten hour surgeries to repair and rewire everything. I was in such dispair about my new medical bills when he came to see me one night after the surgery, he said, "How about we trade a painting of yours for the surgery bill?" Last week I delivered a beautiful mountain landscape in exchange for the $22,000 bill. I feel like I am walking on water.....

Thats an incredible story. I think it is the best barter of the century! How are you feeling now?
What a blessing to discover a new gift and have someone appreciate it to that extent. Awesome.

Hello there,

Well my friends say I don't have just one guardian angel, but several who work in shifts. I felt so much better after the surgery that I put on my body brace, threw my two labs in the Explorer and hooked up the old classic 1966 Airstream 25 foot Tradewind I bought this year and headed for Montana. I had never been there or even pulled a trailer before, so I thought it would be fun to go take a look around.

A chance phone call from a friend just as I was crossing the Montana border told me that they knew someone with a ranch nearby and would make a call. Next thing I know I am making a turn onto a dirt road at a little ghost town and twenty six washboard miles later I end up on a 1200 acre ranch in Centennial Valley set right up next to the snow topped Continental Divide with acres and acres of grassy meadows filled with wildflowers. The owner of the ranch pointed me over to a stand of Aspen and pine trees and said, " Pull the trailer in there. You are welcome to stay as long as you want."

My labs were in heaven with streams, creeks and ponds all over the place to play in all day long. We took long walks through the meadows and up the canyons. There were guest houses to sit out the afternoon thunderstorms and cook in, showers, laundry facilities and even a big library to explore in the evenings. I pretty much landed in heaven and I stayed for a month and a day.

A very close friend of mine who was a famous artist had passed away right before the trip, which we had planned to go on together. The owner of the ranch also knew her and greatly admired her art. In thanks to him for letting me stay there to heal, I gave him one of her last small paintings that I had found in the trailer.

He even extended his kindness once more after I came home in letting me park my Airstream up at his 400 acre ranch here in the hills of Ojai where I live. Now I can go take o quick vacation only 5 minutes from my house where I can go and paint for several days with my dogs for company. I am working now on doing a large painting for him.
Bartering is definitely the best, you never know where it will take you
Even my mechanic is trading work on my car for one of my paintings....

All during my entire trip up to Montana I was amazed at all the Airstream travelers who came by to visit and took the time to explain how all the systems in my trailer worked as I was so new to it all. The Airstream Forums have been incredibly helpful also with figuring out some of my repairs and responding to my requests for information. Little did I know what a great group of people I would come in contact with the day I went to Starbucks just for a cup of coffee and ended up coming home with my wonderful Airstream that was sitting across the street for sale.

Sorry I never gave a conclusion to my barter. I finished the gates months ago the "customers" were very happy. I also ate all the cheese puffs a while back and it was a big ole bag.

Hello everyone -

I love all these barter stories. I agree that bartering can be a great resource and value. We just purchased a 2003 airstream safari and are doing some remodeling work ourselves. We have found a composting toilet and solar panels that we want to add to the stream. We are actually hoping to barter - we have some good interior parts for the Airstream ( a full dinette with table, some bathroom cabinets with mirrors, light fixtures ) we are going to do the composting toilet and solar install ourselves but just want an electrician and plumber to review what we are doing to make sure we don't do something terribly wrong. If you are in the SF bay area in CA and interested let us know.

P.S. - hopefully in a few months I can write back and have a great story myself! Thanks.

Look forward to hearing how it all turned out. Somewhere out there is someone who knows exactly what you are trying to do but you have to ask some good questions and maybe get some references or a way to verify they are for real... Good luck..
Sounds interesting.
