suggestions for couch?

I'm looking for suggestions on what others are using in modified vintage Airstreams in cases where gaucho has been removed. I don't really want to rebuild the gaucho at this point but perhaps at some point down the road. I want to get out and use my Airstream a bit this fall. I'm thinking about a futon, any other ideas?

antique shops/furniture stores

Our '57 Overlander came with a fold-down back, free-standing couch. I'll bet that armed with your trusty tape-measure you can find something in a furniture store or antique shop that would suit your budget, taste, and size requirements.

Here's a photo of the Overlander's couch, unretouched, unrestored and untouched by human hands for years (including dust rags, vacuum cleaners, and any other cleaning implements...)

This seems like the best advice. I will go shopping this weekend.

The '59 actually came with a freestanding couch but I took it out. It was so saggy there is no way anyone could sit or sleep on it.

Futon

When we had our 70 Caravanner, we took out our Gaucho and bought a futon. I didn't like the look of the arms, (they looked so bare to me) I put matching pillow shams on each arm and it looked just like a sofa. We were very happy with that look. You can always find comforters and matching shams.

Futon gone and gaucho in

Hello .. When we bought our 1976 Tradewind it had a futon in it.. hated it .. bought a gaucho out of a 1981 Excella and put it in... we are very happy with it.. futon slids around if you don't have carpeting.. and they are really not comfortable to sleep on.. we had one at home until we built a murphy bed.. as far as covers of a futon.. a double fitted sheet works great.. and cheap also..
