Source for shelf support

Does anyone know where I can get the gold shelf support that attaches to the wall for a shelf over my 1961 bambi front window?

Do you have a picture of the support you need? Many of us carry a mental inventory of many fix-it stores and may be able to point you in the right direction or suggest a reasonably attractive alternative.

I need the gold metal at the back of this shelf. The back of the shelf slides into it.

Are you talking about the lineal strip between the wall & shelf? I don't think that is a shelf "support" - just a trim or filler strip. Is it metal or plastic?

Vintage Trailer Supply has two options:

1) a Metal replacement - but it's not the anodized gold, it's aluminum:
Small Cove Moulding

2) a Plastic Welt - comes in several different colors:
Cove Welt

The metal will be much more difficult to bend.

Can you re-use the one you have?

Another resource would be Outwater Plastics they have lots & lots of odd bits & pieces, you might find something else that would work.

Shelf strip

Shari may be right. But, if it is an actual support, ie: riveted to the wall prior to the shelf being slid in, then I think you may be able to find similar at your local big box fix-it store in the shelving/tiling/carpeting areas. Often they are in bins at the ends of the aisles. I have seen them in aluminum and plastic, usually 3/4"x8' and in gold, silver, copper, white, brown, antique brass and pewter. I agree with Shari that the metal would be harder to shape and would need massaging, but the plastic could gap a bit when radius-ed.
Hmmm.
Will have to twinkle-think on this one...sorry too much Sesame Street today.

My '61 Safari has this strip for the front shelf from the factory. It is identical to the strips that are used to fasten the 1/4" vertical wood panels to the walls of the trailer. It can be either riveted or screwed to the wall and the wood shelf fits into the channel in the aluminum strip.

Thanks for all the help. I should have let you know I need another one of the gold metal strips because I want to install a shelf above the window like the original. Someone took the shelf and the strip out. Thanks!

Good point Sam.

If it is the same as the bulkhead moulding for walls, it can also be found (albeit only in aluminum) at VTS as well. From the posted picture, it looks like a coved corner bead strip to me…hard to tell.

Another possibility for "gold" options would be to check with shower door manufacturers for something that could work.

NO>>>NO>>>NO!
The "F" molding at VTS is larger and will not bend . A bend can be made with lots of forming and cutting. It is not available in gold either. Source for the correct material is still out there somewhere...I am still looking. If you do find the correct material you can anodize it yourself...

I like the shower door option. You are right Melody, this is a specialty item. I didn't know it would be so hard to find. Almost all airstreams of this vintage have the shelf over the window. Maybe I need to give up on the idea and keep as is. In a small airstream, if would be helpful to have the storage space.
