Question round cabinets

We are thinking of replacing the kitchen cabinets in our AS and I really want a round cabinet like the ones in the new models. (photos attached) I have searched for something pre-made with no luck. Does AS sell the base cabinet? What is the chance of pulling one out of a wrecked AS? Will this have to be custom? (If so, can anyone suggest a cabinetmaker in Dallas?) Any suggestions?

The chances of finding a wrecked newer A/S would seem to be slim, but not impossible.
Any quality cabinet shop will be able to make that cabinet. The hardest part will be the curved doors, the rest is simple. You may even be able to order the doors from A/S then have the rest made locally.
I also suspect that there may be forum members in your area who could build it for you, I'd love to give it a shot if I were closer...
Post back what you come up with, I'd be interested.

Be aware that the curved doors are not wood. I believe they are foam core with a plastic exterior. You'd have to choose one of the colors Airstream already stocks. Black woodgrain (original CCD), Dark Brown (current CCD), White (Ocean Breeze), white woodgrain (new Serenity see www.colonialairstream.com), or light oak (Safari/Flying Cloud). You could order the doors or the whole cabinet through a dealer or go to the factory and pick up. If you have them do the labor it will be COSTLY!

Of course with the right skills and curved jigs, you could laminate curved doors. Top layer in a really nice veneer like teak, walnut or maple would then be possible and beautiful.

That's what I'm hoping for.

I hadn't even thought about ordering *just* the doors! I was thinking I'd need the entire cabinet.

So, can anyone recommend a cabinet maker in Dallas?

Warning: Shameless Plug Ahead!

Geometric Forms can provide you with the curved stock required to fabricate the doors. Not cheap, but hey, we're all rich airstreamers, right?

They are located in my hometown of Lorain, Ohio. Guess where I'll be buying my cabinet doors from!

There was an aluminum trailer, not an airstream, at the Vintage Trailer gathering at Pismo Beach last May that had curved woodwork that was done by the owner. I think he may have used Geometric Forms to get the round forms, not sure, but the result was spectacular.

The young man did everything himself. Loads of talent. Notice the old Polaroid camera on the tripod. He got that the day before the rally at a junk shop for $5.00. The whole trailer is just unbelievable.

If anyone is within driving distance of Pismo Beach, CA, a visit to this gathering is well worth your time. There will be over 200 vintage trailers of all makes, styles and sizes. Last year 38 were Airstreams. Open house will be on Saturday, May 15th, all afternoon at Pismo Coast Village.
