Replacing tambour with flat doors

I have repaired my big tambour doors under the kitchen sink one time too many. Thinking about replacing with more conventional flat cabinet doors. Any suggestions about hardware. construction, etc.?

All the OEM tambour and frame is, is a face and door. Why not just replace it with a wood cabinet face and doors? Maybe add a couple decent drawers while yer at it?

Been thinking about doing the same thing... I get along fine with the old roll up door system but my wife just tares the po out of them.. Seems that things like this does not compute in a woman's head where to pull and where not too..

So just pull the face off and frame up like in the kitchen with swinging doors,, MMmmmmmm!

No, the original interior finish was in very good condition with no failure at all. I just cleaned it.

I built new face frames and installed new lift up doors. The doors replace the old lift up doors. You can see pix on my blog.

We wanted to replace the doors as well (ended up replacing the entire cabinet) but still looking to retain some of the Airstream look. So I retained some of the tambour and incorporated it into the new mahogany cabinet faces. I think it solved our problem and still gives it the Airstream feel.
