Replace Corian on range cover?

Did a search and came up flat...

While cooking dinner last night, my wife was using all three burners and warped the outer corian panel on the range cover. I can now see the double sided tape holding the panel on, but is there a source out there for individual panels?

Colonial replaced the entire cover under warranty last year due to the cover being defective and stated it was a several hundred dollar part, maybe pushing $400. Obviously, I don't want to replace the entire cover this go round, just the warped panel. TIA, folks.

May I ask if the cover was "doubled over" with the front Corian piece facing the heat? Or was the whole thing stood up so the underside of the cover was facing the heat? There may be a lesson here for all of us.

A very good lesson! It was doubled over with the corian facing the heat.

Well, I think I will make a practice of keeping it fully open.

Well I am happy I could share in a lesson learned for folks, but I am still hoping someone can share an easy source for the corian panels.

Corian stove top

Hello fellow streamers. I don't have a corian stove top but I've made lots of things out of corian, and you can go to most any cabinet shop and buy scrap pieces of corian. It works just like wood, same tools ect but different glue, and you can also have them fabricate a piece for you if it is a special shape.

But isn't this a pretty unique thickness for this application. It's only about 1/8" thick. Can a shop plane it down?

corain comes in many thickness, as some jobs are laminated onto wood with edgeing of corian to make beleave thicker was used. Corian is very easy to fab. but dust like talc powder very hard on bearings in router also cuts with power saws. I have used a lot of it in many projects. most cabinet shops and counter top fabs. will sell cut outs end pcs. etc. Bill

Airstream may still have the Corian covers in the color and shape you need to match and you would need to order them from an Airstream dealer. You would have to get both pieces. How do I know this, had the same problem on the 2005 Airstream 386 XL MH. The previous owner had burnt the cover and when I bought it I started trying to find a replacement. Airstream still had the covers but not in the color I needed. There was no source for Corian in the thin sheet and color that I could find so I was down to retro-fitting something that would work and look good. Contact Airstream in JC and talk to them about availability and a part number. If available you will need to order from your dealer.

Here is what I ended up doing.

Here is the damaged section

Here is the replacement butcher block cover I made.

Tell us more about this butcher block cover! Suitable for any decor...one piece? two pieces? How thick? Where did you get the pieces? Thanks,
Larry

Thanks for all the suggestions. My next step was to call Colonial, and still is. But I too would like to hear more about the wood idea.

It was made from wood stock that I bought at Home depot that I found in the shelving area and was unfinished to resemble butcher block. It comes in various lengths and widths and is 1/2" thick. I got a piece large enough to cover the entire cover and then cut it in to 2 pieces to fit the 2 folding sections. I then sanded, stained and applied a few coats of poly and attached to the cover with short screws form the underside of the cover.

1/2" is thicker than the corian. Did you have any issues folding the cover with the thicker wood affixed? Thanks for the info.
