Need advice in mounting Corian

We found a fantastic deal on some salvage solid countertop at the local ReStore and I am replacing the original ply/formica. My question is... Should I remain with the original screw-only fastening, or should I add adhesive on top of the counter frame given the added weight and brittleness of the new material? Any experienced input is appreciated.

Sounds great.. what's the thickness of the Corian? I would glue some wood strips to the underside with epoxy... scratch up the glue site with sandpaper to give extra grip, clean with acetone or denatured alcohol on fresh, clean cotton rag, then glue and clamp! Let it set overnight for a good bond... if this holds, you have a working solution! You can glue the wood in strategic places on the Corian, then side screw into existing counter uprights... this will allow flex in the cabinet, while giving strength... and allow for you to remove for 'service' in the area by removing screws..

Or you can just lay a bead of Liquid Nails on the cabinet edges and drop the Corian in place.. but results may vary..

The Corian is 1cm., triple thickness at the edge w. a bullnose.

Kewl find! I would go the route of gluing strips which would be near existing cabinet structure. Then side screw the wood surfaces to hold the tip in place. You can then remove screws iff you want to service inside that area.

OK, stupid question: How do you cut the Corian to size? Special saw blade?

If it was my trailer, I would use adhesive only. An adhesive silicone caulk would be my choice.

You cut the stuff with a circular saw. Carbide tooth maybe a 60 or 72.

Cut it with a router using straight edge or a guide. Sand and polish edges after cutting. You can saw it, but it takes more work afterward to finish the edges.

I agree with Alan use router as I have used much corian, but be aware it makes dust fine as talcum powder use simple mask & blow out router when finished, use strips to mount as suggested then screw into mounting points Bill

The router is fine for curves with a guide and straight cuts as well with a guide. Use silicone calk to attach to a sheet of plywood. I put in Corian counter tops a few years back and and nothing has moved after a lot miles. If you need to join 2 pieces and need to hide the seam you can use the special filler that matches the color and then sand and polish. Try this link for supplies.
