Givin up on buy Tampour doors for my 71'. Bit the bullet and started to fix them, I think??? Took all the slats apart piece by piece and cleaned them up. I intend to glue them back on a canvass cloth { which is the way new doors are manufactured today} Pray for me. Any suggestions???

Question Tambour

I have a 1973 Overlander with rotten Tambour. I have ordered the replacement wood tambour and have started cutting the pieces. I have a question for you since you are already involved in the project: How do you remove and replace the tambour from the cabinet under sink and other cabinet near table? (Ones for above cabinets have been easier.) Very curious as can't quite figure out. I can be reached at repodog@aol.com I will be going full force on this project on Sunday as for Father's day, I get 7 hours of restoration time from family....

Unhappy Under Sink Tambour Removal

Okay…just remember that you asked the question. The only way we can see to remove the tambour on the kitchen sink cabinet is to first remove the sink and countertop.

Hey…don’t kill the messenger. And if you get a better suggestion, please let us know.

Thumbs down Tampour Doors

Kill the messenger!! There are two rivets in the left [ and right??] columns behind the veneer in the front that tie the track channel to the column. Both tampour doors slide on that track, at least on my 71' Int.

You do not have to take the sink out to replace the tambour. Take a dremel tool and cut the inside track on the top and bottom about 1 inch long. You then can roll the tambour up and start feeding it from the inside. I hope this help is not too late.
