Modify Table on U-Dinette in 2012 Sport?

Has anyone figured out a way to modify the table on that U shaped dinette in the 22 Sports? I'm not a small guy, and getting into that dinette is ugly. We will never use it as a bed, so it doesn't really have to fit the space between the seats. I have ideas, but I'm sure someone out there has already done this.

We had a similar problem with the table in our Outfitter Truck Camper. The original dinette table was 30" x24" mounted on a single post. Even though the table is mounted on a slider, it seemed like part of it was always in the way.

We decided to try a 24" x 24" table which has worked out perfectly for us. We used 3/4" marine grade plywood for the table top. We rounded the corners and topped it with self-healing cutting mat material. We just painted the edge flat black to keep things simple. You could easily top the new table with matching laminate and edge it with aluminum trim for a more Airstream-appropriate look.

I would suggest that you take your best guess at the size that you want, and try out an unfinished version to make sure that it will work for you.

It was kind of what I was thinking. What did you use for "self-healing cutting mat material"? That sounds perfect.

I used an Alvin brand Self-Healing Cutting Mat that I purchased on Amazon. You will need the 24" by 36" size. It is available on Amazon Prime for $25.82. It has a black side and a green side. For obvious reasons, it is difficult to cut to size. It makes an attractive, but almost indestructible, work surface.

I am using it on both the table in the truck camper and the work bench in the 23FB.

Man. A workbench in an Airstream? Sounds like heaven. DDon't think the 22s we've been looking at are big enough for my table saw, band saw, etc.
