Mattress Question

On our inaugural camping trip; we realized that the frames for the twin size beds in our 1967 Sovereign were not actually wide enough to accommodate a twin size mattress. We made do but I would like to find mattresses that actually fit the spaces. Has anyone else had this issue and what did you end up doing?

Thanks!

RV mattresses are often differently sized than standard residential mattresses. They are usually smaller. You have options.

One is to make the frame larger and use a standard mattress. This will allow you to use standard sheets which are somewhat cheaper than RV sheets. You can talk to either RV dealers or mattress stores about what they can obtain. If they are custom made they will cost more than you might think; RV mattresses will also cost more. Or you can get a piece of foam, cut it to size and have a cover made for it. The foam commonly available offgasses a lot of noxious chemicals, so real latex is better for you.

We were browsing at an RV dealership Saturday afternoon. We saw a display of RV mattresses that were of really good quality and very reasonably priced. I wish I had paid attention to the brand so I could forward that information.
Also, the chain mattress stores in strip malls (Mattress Firm?) can custom make them to your size specifications.

Thanks for the input! Because we don't want to narrow the aisle between the beds any I guess we will be going custom. I will look into the foam options and check our local rv dealers also.
Thanks again!

I need mattresses for my 66 Trade Wind twin. The frames are 39 wide by 75 long. There is an RV mattress seller in Colorado, but I forgot their name. Shipping costs would be very high. I'm seeing prices up to $400 each. Wow. I think I would rather have an air type mattress (Select Comfort) but those are even more expensive. The original mattresses were laytex foam I believe. I have them, but they are junk.

The Lebeda (not sure about the spelling) Mattress Co. makes good quality RV sized mattresses. They are reasonably priced. They also have RV sized bedding.

Shop a bit on Craig's List for Sleep Number beds. People buy them all the time and decide they don't like them and they can be picked up cheap to free. Sometimes you may have to shop around and put a system together. If you must have new, then wait for a sale and purchase those twins online, and it's usually cheaper mailed to the door.

Thanks for the mattress shopping tips. The odd size limits my options.

Some mattress stores can get custom mattresses. Use the magic Google.

We custom ordered the 8" special queen shape for our 25FB from Rocky Mountain Masttress Company. We ordered the 600 thread custom sheets from Airstream. They fit well.

We left the factory twin mattresses for the 31' Classic at the factopry and ordered the same 8" mattress thickness for the twin beds and once again the 600 thread sheets from Airstream.

Memory Foam Mattress | Custom Mattress | Adjustable Bed | Custom Made Mattress | Latex Bed

We sleep well on these mattresses. They are not cheap nor are the sheets inexpensive.
