Magic Bed by Flexsteel and Glastop Inc

I wanted to share some pictures of the new magic bed from Flexsteel that I installed in my trailer. Many people look for solutions to replace aging sofa beds or dinettes. I read the blog on the VAP which lead me to order the same thing. The unit weighs just over 100 lbs, and installed pretty easy using 4 bolts. The only inconvenience was not having alot of room to manuver the drill under the sofa. Here is a picture of the finished product with dining table.

Pricing the magic bed out only brought three real competitors for our business. The best overall cost we received was through Glastop in Florida. Our original order was for a cloth sofabed, but for some reason, it was not delivered on the date that Glastop. Since I told Glastop that I absolutely had to have my magic bed by the 21st, they shipped out a unit they had in stock to make up for it. The piece they sent to us was Ultra Leather instead of cloth. On Friday, BOTH sofas were delivered at the same time. This became a logistical nightmare for Glastop. They spent their own money to ship the leath unit to us to save face and provide great customer service. The shipping company has rejected their claim to cover the cost of shipping the sofa back even though the unit was over a week past its' due date. In the end, I received the Ultra Leather couch for an additional $250....a small price to pay. I would highly recommend Glastop to anyone considering new RV furniture.

I sat on this sofa when Steve & Amy had it installed and it is SUPER comfy. The Ultra Leather is very soft (yet very durable). I still can't get over Glastop sending Steve a sofa to use for the rally--that is EXCEPTIONAL customer service in a world that seems to have forgotten what that means. Please frequent them if you have a need for something they sell.

If anyone is interested in the other sofa, you mght contact Gene at Airstream of Arkansas before it gets sent back (if it hasn't already been). It was a nice, durable medium brown color. You might be able to negotiate a good discount with Glastop since they won't be paying to ship it back to themselves...

Enjoy that beautiful sofa, Medic family!

Congrats Steve & Amy -- glad you got it home with only a bit of re-routing.

What a beautiful sofa. The best part is the comfort. I can envision lots of great naps on that sofa!

Great sofa with a real easy install. It easily folds out and is very very comfy...if Steve had not had so many things for me to do Saturday, I could have taken a snooze on that thing!

Yeah Gene...you were the only one working. You were so overworked that I had to install my door guard with you watching on since you were so tired.

Can you share the model number?

Looks great!!

I have a similar desire to replace the original "flip over" sofa with something that will better accommodate our tall family members.

Do you know the model number / series of the unit that you installed?

Best regards,
Warren

Hey Mr. Sov,

Here is a link the the actual unit at Glastop. I purchased the optional endcaps and removeable arm rests with mine. They are located in Pompano Beach, Florida. There is a nice brown one that is being returned to from Airstream of Arkansas if you are interested...I bet they will let it go for a steal.

Wow, that's a nice sofa. Love the Ultra leather. I've seen Ultra leater in other's coaches at rallies. Steve, it will serve you well and will probably hold up much better to stress and staining, especially with Colin around.

How does it sleep? Most sit well but are a real tourture device to sleep on. I love the leather but am leary of spending the money for a comfy couch only.

Since anyone using it to sleep on will be an overnight guest, I look at the less-than-comfortable sleeping as the price of admission. I'll be using a couch much more than a guest will be sleeping on it.
This would of course be much different if someone were to use it nightly.

I opened it up, and it was not uncomfortable to lay on. This sofa is going to be the main sleeper for Amy and I while Collin will take the luxurious memory foam mattresses in the rear. If we were fulltiming, we might have opted for another option, but this will work dandy for us.

Maybe I'll go take a nap on it today and report back later.

Steve

Dear Sleeping Soldier,

Let us know how that nap works out...

I caught a little catnap on it Saturday when you weren't looking and it was great!

I have 2 questions

1. Will the flezsteel sofa fit over a wheel well?

2. Are the Flexsteel sofas " noisey " when you are " sleeping " on them?

Steve,

I am so happy that you posted the info on your sofa purchase, and Glastop. I am seriously considering replacing the front bed in our 07 20' SE with a sofa sleeper, and would appreciate your opinion on how well it sleeps. I actually don't like the mattress that came with our coach, as I find it too soft.......prefer the dinette cushions (firmer) better, but I'm just a bit too tall to really be comfortable sleeping on it. With the exception of not having a couch, we are happy with our 20' layout......replacing the bed with a flexsteel sofa sleeper may turn it into the "perfect" Airstream (for us).
