lower storage cabinets

I have a fantastic 68 overlander that has only one minor problem... all of the the cabinet covers under the twin beds have detached from the plastic "hinges" that held them as you pushed them back...(is this the tambour that was talked about?)
Is there a way to fix them authentically or need I be creative?
Looks like it was a strip of plastic acting as a sort of hinge.

So far so good...just a few minor fixes...it is pretty solid trailer...
I'm sure I'll be asking lots more questions as I look closer....

I noticed that all the cabinet doors were hanging loose, but I didn't look very closely since you needed to get going before the peak of the rush hour.

I think it depends on whether you want to keep the interior authentic or whether you just want it functional. If you want it authentic, I would PM or call Andy at Inland RV ( http://www.inlandrv.com ). Andy has a lot of vintage parts and a lot of experience with the older models. He may very well have the material you need or know a substitute.

If you just want it functional, I would go to HD or Lowes for some nice hinge and latch hardware.

Did you just get your Overlander? I think I know the one you got and I saw the hinges you are talking about. They seem to be long brown plastic strips which hinge in the middle. The fella selling it had tape holding them on if I remember correctly. I am sure Inland can help you out but you could call Camper Clinic in Buda. I don't think tambour came out until the 69 or 70 something models, be glad if you don't have it!

Yup, I suspect it is the same one...I peeled layers of tape off of the cabinet doors.
They are strange hinges...I don't see any semblance of a real hinge associated with the cabinet doors....just a brown plastic strip that runs horizontally to hold up the wood panel (poor design IMHO)
I am reluctant to stick modern hinges on them...
I would look at Andy's or in Buda if I knew what I was looking for...I guess "hinge" is close.....

the latches are fine and dandy...it is the "hinge" (plastic strip) that I need to find.

The lead tech (Les) at Camper Clinic in Buda knows a lot about older Airstreams and is currently restoring the yellow-painted one they have on their lot. I would touch base with him.

BTW: My International uses the hidden European-type hinges that are completely concealed except when the cabinet is opened. Something like that would maintain the vintage appearance with modern function. Nice thing is, I can remove a cabinet door by simply unsnapping the latch halves.

I like the idea of the snap off- kind of hinges.
We fired up the LP heat this weekend and it works great.....
