Interior of cabinets

Any suggestions as to how best to "clean up" the interior of my '67 Safari's wood cabinets?I am beginning the re-finishing of the exterior this weekend, but not sure how best to tackle the insides.the wood there is all solid, but quite grimy and in some places, old Mactac or something like that,is peeling and flaking off the cabinet shelves.

I would like to paint them,I think.Just want a nice cleans surface for my cloths, food etc.

Would Zolotone be a good choice for this?

Any other suggestions?

Lightbulb Cabinet Clean-Up

Charlotte ~

I wouldn't recommend using Zolatone over any sticky/greasy/grimmy surface. It should be cleaned up just as you would for any other paint, otherwise you will have adhesion problems.

Have you thought of using something more solid/durable/cleanable like linoleum or sheet vinyl for the shelves themselves? These could be layed right over whatever is there now and they are sturdy enough not to have to be glued down.

Another thought...there is a product called "Bestine" which is a rubber cement solvent that works really well at removing sticky residue left over from tape, labels or shelf paper. It can be found at most art supply stores. I always have a can of it around...

Good luck!
