Ikea cabinets in your restoration?

First I will apologize if this has been asked...........

Has anyone tried to use IKEA cabinets in their restoration? I was wondering if they will take the beating that going down the road might place on them.

We have purchased a number of items from IKEA including kitchen cabinets for the house but never tried them in an Airstream.

If someone knows of a thread that discusses this please point me in that direction!

Thanks all.

IKEA cabinets are really heavy - particleboard weighs a ton.

We use IKEA units when we build stands for tradeshows. We always give them away to Habitat at the end of the show - you can disassemble them once, max, before they are unusable.

I think SmokelessJoe used modified Ikea cabinets in his build. I used the drawer mechanisms in my Overlander and they work well, I wanted the self close/ soft close feel and overall I didn't add much if any weight. I would not personally use the particle board cabinet myself but the metal drawer and door components are much like Blum and are very high quality.

It seems that the simple answer to the extra weight is to drill out the cabinets and remove excess weight.

Large solid (hidden) panels get large holes drilled in them, in other words.
