Front Dinette for 1964 Overlander

Was it an option to have a front dinette on a 1964 Overlander International? Mine currently does not, I have a double window up by the front gaucho and this does not seem as practical as having a dinette. I am wondering why this wasn't standard as it seems to be by 1965.
Thanks.

My 62 also had a front gaucho. Dinette would seem to be more useful IMO.

No, fixed dinettes were not a factory option on any 1964 Airstream trailer. Instead, Airstream provided small a put-up/take-down table for shorter 1964 trailers, a pull-out front table for the 22' Safari, and a formica covered drop-leaf table for most larger trailers like yours. The drop leaf table could be set up inside the trailer or taken outdoors for sociable dining with friends.

The drop leaf table provided more dining options than a fixed dinette. Most tables have been separated from their '64 trailer over the ensuing years as many owners simply discard items they don't find personally useful instead of storing them during their ownership period and selling those parts with the trailer to the next owner. The 1964 30' Sovereign of the Road usually avoided this problem by having a built-in fold-away credenza table. Many owners of '64 Airstreams have removed the front gaucho and replaced it with a dinette.

1965 Airstreams did not have dinettes. Instead, they had gauchos like 1964 but with built-in slide-forward and fold-up tables on one or two ends of the gaucho that provided a dining option. These fold-up tables were similar to the credenza table in the '64 Sovereign of the Road.

Some folks really like the gaucho, I guess it just depends on how you intend to use the trailer.

Mine originally came with a gaucho, but it was long gone by the time I got the trailer. One PO (Terry aka Overlander63) had installed a gaucho from an '87 Excella, and it was in nice shape, but I am planning on building a custom dinette in the front lounge, along the lines of what Uwe did in his 63 Overlander. It's tricky with the double window configuration, but I will make it work, and it will serve my needs a lot better than the gaucho would have.

Plus, aesthetically, I just think that the front dinette looks really cool.

Front Dinette 1964 Overlander

Was a front dinette an option for a 1964 Overlander and if so are there plans available to build it identical to the factory version. Are there any sources for pictures if it was an option? I currently have a legomatic table and am currently not sure where to store it when travelling.
Thanks.

just went outside to look at 64 overlander that i just got, toilett fell through rotted floor at back and front floor is rotted as well. i see no evidence that it ever had a dinette installed.this coach is all factory. haven't been able to clear title yet and may end up parting it out.exterior is excellant.

If the exterior is excellent I don't see the need to part it out, simply replace the rotten plywood, new toilet and maybe new tank if needed.
