Formica's new laminates unveiled!

Breaking News: Formica’s 100th Anniversary designs include retro style counter top patterns and colors — hurray for color and pattern!

I gotta say I'm not particularly impressed.

The eclipse patterns (the ovals) okay ....... the others, well, not my taste. . The one that looks like powering up bars , what were they thinking?

Sigh... I've been waiting months to see these.

What do you think?

Colors are ok. Not digging the patterns.

I kinda like the pattern on the 2nd set from the top... very 70s sci-fi.

I kind of like them. Not historical but retro.

I'm underwhelmed too. If I had to pick, I like the oval ones as well. I checked into the boomerang by Wilson Art, but WOW, was it expensive! I really like the old aqua one....

Bob - Your are a man of good taste. I found the boomerang from a company in (I think) New York state. Expensive, but so absolutely necessary for the counter tops in the restoration of my '54 Cruiser. It ties the retro of the vintage trailer together perfectly. Glad I spent the $$. No regrets.

Formica counter tops and face for 2013

Does anyone know the Formica or Wilson Art colors (#) for the cabinet tops (Dark Brown) and cabinet fronts (light wood) on the 2013 Flying Cloud? I have checked the local stores...no luck

I would think calling your Airstream dealer would yield that information.

Your 63 had boomerang in it originally? That is a new one on me. They used some cool laminates but I have never seen boomerang used(except those longing for nostalgia).

Because I used to be a cabinet maker I still get occasional visits from the local company that stocks Formica brand laminates. My sales man brought me the new samples yesterday. I asked him what was so retro about them. I then proceeded to show him real retro Formica samples from the 50's and 60's. Unfortunately he is not a Formica rep he is a rep for the local distributor. My favorite Airstream laminate was from the mid 50's. It has gold and silver stars with rays coming off them, gold and silver speckles, on an ivory background.

Can't see it very well but it was the insert in the fridge door....

We got the trailer in 1989, the panel was in the original fridge when we got it.

Was yours an International trim level? They had a very cool map of the world originally as the fridge insert. I suspect you might have gotten an owner upgrade. The map insets are made of unobtainium. They bring sick money when ever they show up for sale.

Frank,

Not sure, that's the way it was when we got it.

PO made cushions, curtains and put a rug down. We kept those as we got it.
We did have to put a new insert in when the original fridge gave up.

My dream formica would be the starburst flecked laminate. Wilson art will make anything if you have a picture but the cost for us would run around 700.00 boo hoo

Stumbled across a new laminate company today and I am liking the choices. The wood laminates in particular are way more interesting than I've seen before. And they have a lot of the linen look colors. Check them out!
